I think more QBs will want to play under Whipples system. I think this may be a sign though the ones already here were not quite fitting into the system? Will be interested to see what happens in the next year, to see what practices look like between Beville and the new kid.

Sorry dude. I am excited Yellen chose Pitt but he was a consensus 4 star recruit - top 300.

Not a 5 star - don't stoop to Teton's level and do the opposite

Good lord, don't make shit up when you critique others on making shit up. Either that, or you don't know what consensus means.

On this very site, and in the article, it mentions that Rivals had him as a 3-star recruit. He wasn't top 300, he wasn't even nationally ranked per this site and ranked 11 spots lower than Beville for Rivals Pro-style quarterbacks.

247 also gave him a 3-star ranking and outside the top 1000.

ESPN ranked him the 63rd overall prospect, which is great, but also skewed the 247 Composite.

Willing to give Stache the benefit of the doubt on this one, maybe he got confused about the 2 ASU QB’s.

Jayden Daniels was the 5 star type recruit, Yellen seemed more of a 3 star guy.

Doesn’t really matter at this point, Yellen looked pretty good in limited action and probably stands a decent chance of winning the starting job.

Hey moron. Look at the 24/7 composite ranking. By definition that is a consensus. And there he is listed as a 4 star and the 293rd ranked national recruit .

When the majority gives him 3-stars and ranks him outside of the top 1000, then it's pretty hard to argue that the consensus is that he is a 4-star and top 300 just because a single site has him ranked a 4-star and top 100.

It doesn't matter what these so-called gurus thought of the guy coming out of high school. Max Browne and Ricky Town had more hype as high school prospects than anybody Pitt has ever recruited. Same for Chris Clark at TE. How'd they work out?

Arizona State fans seem to think Yellen is a real loss, and that he's leaving to be a starter. No guarantees here, but he sounds like he's worth the scholarship. I feel better about him than a guy who has been given real opportunities and washed out.

The composite ranking is average of multiple ranking services not just 1 site. Hence the use of the word composite in the title.

No more 5 star qb transfers please. Max Browne was enough for us for at least another decade.

Browne had already showed himself to be a bust.
Getting a QB who is transferring early in his career because he was beat out by a 5* recruit, is a program good deal. You can live on those types of transfers.

There’s not really any evidence of that.
Transfer QBs like to go places where they think they have a guaranteed starting job, or at least a very advantageous depth chart.
We haven’t really seen any evidence that it signals anything for a team on the recruiting trail in the transfer portal era. It usually just means the kid thinks your depth chart sucks.

Ummm... yeah... I guess if you think he just decided to go to Pitt without any of our coaches knowing that could be true??

Look, you may not like the methodology but that is what the composite ranking is designed to do - take into account all sites and rankings and come up with the consensus. And that composite showed him listed as a 4 star and the 293rd ranked national recruit .

Ok, so where did the 5th star come from?

get with the program. I never talked about him being a 5 star. My first post on this thread said that was erroneous by the OP.

All I did was point out what his actual ranking was - a Top 300 recruit as evidenced by the composite ranking showing him listed as a 4 star and the 293rd ranked national recruit .

Ok, got it. Sorry. This thread is kind of a disaster so I missed some posts.

he’s a good prospect/player with a nice bio. I’m happy we are getting him. Hope him, beville and Patti all stick around.

Qbs get hurt, backups are only a snap away. Look at the Steelers. If you lose the competition in summer, you still could very easily get your fair share of starts. You never know.

Why do Pitt fans keep getting excited about transfer qb 's ?
The record since Peterman and Savage left hasn't worked out to well and they all lost playing timre to (supposed ) lower rated recruited qbs once they got here. As a matter of fact they barely got any time.
At 25 % success rate maybe Narduzzi should leave it alone and recruit harder at that position from high schoolers.
And as I previously mentioned if you keep bringing in transfer Qb's maybe that might have a little to do with not getting better qb's out high school.
Pick your poison (and transfer qbs are killing Pitt.)

I hope he's quick enough to escape the pocket. A statue is the last thing this team needs with the state of the O Line.

This post is way too generic.

The difference between these transfer QBs has little to do with "stars" and a whole lot more to do with how many years they have left.

Savage, browne, town all had 1 year.

Peterman had 2, and this kid coming in has 3.

Forget the stars. The Yellen kid is going to work out well for Pitt because hes going to be here for awhile.

Do you really need to get a QB out of high school today?

I agree that getting an upperclassman is usually not going to be ideal because chances are they have proved to be a bust by that point (Browne).

But some 4* that enrolled and then left like a year later because he couldn’t beat out another 4*/5*? Those are everywhereeeee on the portal market. And those kids haven’t yet proved to be a bust, they just came into a stacked depth chart, why wouldn’t you take them?

If you can't see the difference between Yellen who is one year out of high school and will have 3 years of eligibility at Pitt after sitting out 2020 - and a guy like Browne who had 1 year eligibility left, well there is no hope for you
