In listening to some interviews with Jay Vudovich, he has been pretty direct with the level of talent (or lack thereof) in the program and has said that he needs to bring in players that have played for the USMNT youth teams, and players that have realistic aspirations to play professionally and for the USMNT. The question is, can he recruit that kid to Pitt especially when we have a turf field, something that big-time soccer players HATE.

Anyone know how soccer recruiting is going?

Turf fields has nothing to do with recruiting. Many club teams play and practice on turf fields nowadays. Most top programs UCLA. ND. Stanford Etc only look at kids with those credentials. However many programs have won championships without a team full of National program players. The academies in major clubs have changed that direction. A great conference. Great coaching that develops can bring kids over. So many young good soccer players out there. Look at New Mexico. Akron. Creighton. All have solid programs. Jay needs to upgrade the talent and soccer IQ on the team and the rest will work out.

Almost every high school in my area and the major soccer club complexes that I'm familiar with have turf fields. And here near Columbia MD is a major soccer hotbed, people are really into it. Lot's of kids getting scholarships, lot's of travel teams, etc.
