Murray is giving up soft goals every game. This could come back to haunt the Pens. He faces half the shots that Jones does. I hear on the radio who wins the Conn Smyth for the Pens and who does Crosby give the cup to first. You have to win it first.

Oh lets not forget the cant wait to trade Fleury crowd, you may see him in one of the next games. He was very close to coming in last night.

Murray needs a nickname, that's the issue.. Cant be a good goalie in this league if you don't have a nickname.. Weak glove hand, giving up the short side post, going down quicker than a girl on prom night, all trivial issues.. Get this dude a nickname ASAP and these things will take care of themselves..

I want SteelCurtain to come in on this thread and tell me how big of an idiot I am for suggesting Fleury sticks around for 1 more year to have a 60/40 split with Murray next year.

Not only is Murray letting in bad goals, but he's also delusional in thinking he played a good game. These are not good comments to hear from a goalie after a game where he shit the bed. You would have thought someone from the organization would have corrected him after his game 4 vs tampa comments. Compare his comments to ones from Fleury after game 5. Mr Murray has a lot of growing up to do still.

“I felt like I was on top of things tonight, to be honest. Again, they kind of fan on the one. And I probably could have played the Burns goal better. Apart from that, they got a few lucky bounces but, yeah, I mean, I felt really good. Felt on top of it. Was great in the second and third,” he said.

I was in the moment. I didn’t think I played badly by any means. As a team, we sat on our heels at the start a little bit,” he said. “I thought I handled it pretty well. I don’t think that affected how I played. I was pretty sharp early, made a couple of good saves, and then after the third one I shut it down. Played really well after the third one.”

martin > murray last night. game over. martin was very good last night. the burns goal was a soft goal. it was pretty like the sharks OT winner. goalies are taught at a very young age, if your going to get beat, don't let it happen on the short side. then on another goal, once again he got beat on a soft goal to the glove side. high and glove side is the book on murray at this stage.

murray needs a little humility. those quotes are salt in a wound, dude needs to learn how to do a post game interview.. Is taking the "Sidney Crosby / Walt Harris" tactic of deflecting blame onto others..

Im uncertain of what you do next year with murray and flower.. Doing a 50/50 just wont work, cant imagine either of these two being OK with this but on flip side, I sure as heck don't feel too great about Murray and whoever the backup is.. Guess it all depends on what you can get back for flower.. A lot of good goalies will be on the trading block, it's a buyer's market..

I always expected this series mirror Pens/Wings Part 1 and, so far, it's done just that.

Murray allowed a soft goal or two. But, the Pens had 2+ periods to knot it up and failed. He deserves some blame but not all of it.

Yes, he did. But, if you're gonna win this thing, gotta find a way to get another past him. Pens have faced tough goalie comp, but you'd think they'd score more v. Tampa and SJ with 45+ shots multiple games.

I still say Pens in 6.

Sharks only remote chance is Pavelski catching fire. And, I don't see that happening.

Pens totally out played the sharks. The difference definitely was goaltending. Jones was unbelievable. Murray needs to step up his play big time. The Pens have been protecting him, but the few that get through to him, he has to stop.

I wouldn't hang on to his comments too much. It might just be what he has been coached/told to do, is to remain confident and positive. As a 22 year old, he might not be processing this through the media in the best manner.

As for MAF/Murray. Yeah, part of me would love to see MAF take it home. But that is a risk. And Murray's response games after a loss is off the charts.

As for next year, yeah I would think you start with both, as the season goes if Murray is still putting up great numbers, then you look to trade MAF to some goalie desperate team.

Saw that. RIP. Two legends inside of a week with Ali and now Gordie Howe. There's Howe, Lemeiux, Gretzky and then there's everyone else.

He doesn't need to step up his play "big time". He needs to stop 20 shots! Jones on the other side has stepped up big time, that fool is stopping 40 shots a game. Having to stop 20 shots, where maybe 3 or 4 are high scoring opportunities is not asking someone to win games on their own.

I thought both goalies were nervous and the sharks have exposed the glove side of Murray however the Pens must have hit 5-6 posts last night so I'm not ready to say Jones stood on his head. I thought the penguins in the beginning were just outplayed.

-He has a 92.3% save percentage this post season. Fleury has played in the playoffs 10 years. Not only is Murray's save percentage this season better than 8 of 10 Fleury's years, Fleury's career playoff save percentage is 90% with a 2.66 GAA.

-Im sticking with Murray all the way through this year to win the cup.

If a couple of those go in, it's a different story. Hitting the post happens, but it was unlucky that it happened so much in that game.

While I am far from an expert. It seems to me that Murray is still learning his craft and will improve. That said, he doesn't move well from his left to right in goal and the Sharks know it. His glove seems a little slow as well. Fluery carried the team early in the year, but is probably not game sharp right now. Quite a problem for the coaching staff. The Penquins are so fast and get plenty of scoring chances. It wouldn't surprise me to see a Pens win in San Jose on Sunday.

Murray is actually correct about his 2nd and 3rd periods. He was very good. To me that's what so frustrating about his 1st and 3rd goals which were both softies. His glove hand is pretty poor and his inability to close off the post on wrap arounds in maddening.

And Murray lost it in 5 shots on goal.
Not really. The Pens still had 2+ periods to tie or win and failed to do so. Kessel missed a couple wide open nets. Others had open nets but didn't elevate the puck...which would have resulted in sure goals.

If you want simplistic explanations....well you have it down pat. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap the other guy. Jones was great. He stole the game for them. The Pens played their game and did it well. Keep doing the same and they will lift the cup

I do tip my cap to Jones.
And have no problem than in a clinching championship game...giving up 3 goals on the first 5 shots he's faced, is awful beyond words.
He rallied to be competent..but, the damage was done.

Penguins had to chase the game for the first time all series. They responded and dominated..just didn't break through.

How many high danger shotd did he face thr last 2 periods? I count 1, MAYBE 2. So if you call stopping perimeter wrist shots impressive, you musy havr been highly impressed with a lot of average goaltending.

What does 1 playoff performance have to do with a goalie's ability to carry the load for 80 games next year? If anything, Sullivan and Rutherford are seeing Murray is not quite there yet and probably 2 years away from being able to play that many games.

Your Yinzer hater is showing.

He was good the last 2 periods after letting in 2 softies in his first few shots. His team came back and lifted him back into the game but his counterpart stole the show....and his teammates missed a goodly number of open nets.

If you are one of those folks who needs to assign blame have at it...and he would be the logical target...but the guys who the Pens count on to score couldn't break through despite their aggressive and impressive play. Jones was the sh*t last night. It happens.

I see all you do is read the box score. Have at it, and leave the hockey talk to the guys that watched the game. The loss resides on Fleury and he comes off looking bad by not accepting the blame. He'll learn as he grows up.

Because of his team he was not lifted after those 2 bad goals. The Pens responded, however in the Stanley cup finals if you give up 3 goals on 5 shots in the 1st period you will lose the game 95% of the time. If we are to give him credit for the games he has won, facing half the shots as the opposing goalie, then he has to be accountable when he is the reason they lose.

By the way Malkin and Crosby played their asses off in that game. Jones has outplayed Murray in every game but game 4.

Not an expert by any means... But sweet Jesus he gave up 2 to make it 2-0 in the first 2 minutes.... It's hockey ... That kind of start sucks a monkeys ass... Period

You're an arrogant ass. Why don 't you leave hockey talk to those who understand the game...and why would the loss reside on Fleury?
