Something that has always bugged me about game-ending desperation plays

Like the Henderson kick return.

I dont think situations like that should ever end in a tackle. The half second before your knee goes down, you throw it up in the air behind you, even if you dont see anyone open. It rarely will result in a TD but its more likely than just being tackled.

It should be a basic instinct to just throw the ball behind you. Every time I see a game ending on a tackle, I shake my head. These plays should end in 1 of 3 ways:

1. Defense recovers a lateral
2. Ball ends up out bounds
3. TD

It should never end on a tackle.

He turned around to throw it but he was wrapped up around the arms before he could throw it

Completely agree. Henderson was sprinting toward multiple tacklers near the sideline; he had plenty of time to see he wasn't getting a TD and to simply throw it over his head toward the left as far as possible.
