Sorry for another PSU thread, but....Joe (knew) to be honored

IMHO, if UPS wants to keep bringing-up JVP and honoring his memory, that's fine.

But it also gives Pitt fans, the media, and fans of other schools carte blanche to bash them mercilessly for doing it. No Pitt fan should feel guilty for keeping the topic alive if UPS fans continue with their refusal to move away from it.

NOBODY here --- not PSU fans, not Pittsburgh fans, not the national commentators --- knows exactly what this "commemoration" will exactly look like on 17-September.

Let's just wait and see. I'd honestly anticipate something very low-key: JoePa's former players (many of the players are already going to be in town that weekend for some pre-existing Letterman Club function) coming out on the field in between the 1st and 2nd quarters with an acknowledgment that today is the exact 50-year anniversary of Paterno's coaching debut.

I'm not a "Paterno Loyalist", but something like above --- what would be the big deal about that?

Anyway, that's one Penn Stater's thoughts. Wait and see is kind of a boring opinion, but it is mine.

If you think the numerous half-brained JoePa sycophants who make their pilgrimage over and over again to Centre County to pay homage to their deity are going to allow the "commemoration" be anything but a side show, you are fooling yourself.

The University may just be paying lip service to the zealots by offering this token celebration. But you know damn well that the truly brainwashed lunatic fringe will go full tilt batshitcrazy on September 17th. I can't wait to see the video of the JoePa statue some jackaloon makes out of SPAM and then all the other circle-jerkers light candles around it and chant.

It will be priceless.

Get yourself some popcorn. The extra large bucket.

ANY celebration of this person is a disgrace to the victims and parents who have had their child taken advantage of. The size of the celebration does not mean anything to me!

He knew and he was in charge. period

Good God Man, listen to yourself! You are stating that it is fine to commemorate (honor in memory) this man who knowingly permitted an endless supply of innocent young victims for rape by his close friend, Jerry, as long as the ceremony is not too flamboyant.. Honor a man (and school administration), who refused to comply with the Federal Clery Act and exempted his football empire from all disciplinary action by the school and civil legitimate authorities? How about Germany commemorating the Fuhrer's appointment to Chancellor in 1933: After all, he achieved many great victories in Europe? ( obvious hyperbole)

If your find honoring him no big deal, you find Paterno's actions or lack thereof, honorable. A cultist in denial. Football uber alles!

The school seemed to be distancing itself from the Cult. Now this opens the school itself up to endless ridicule. It's going to be ugly. What are they thinking? Nothing to gain, so much to lose.

You've gotta admit that it's congruent with the narrative. This is the same school that reportedly had Jerry Sandusky sitting as a guest in the president's box during Paterno's final game. And the president was quite aware of the allegations re: Sandusky. How can they possibly rationalize this?

This all seems awkward.

1. PSU is part of a lawsuit file by the Paterno family and has been sued by Jay for wrongful termination.

2. How can a family that is ticked off enough to sue be okay with their patriarch being used like this during a game?

3. Can't imagine what James is thinking about all of this. The diversion from the on field product aside, he's still an afterthought.

4. We've heard since day one about how the sanctions weren't fair to the players and how the football program is somehow separate from the scandal, but here they are, the day before the season starts, and their fan base is worked up over t-shirts and whether Joe will be honored during a short TV timeout during the third game of the season.

n.

No sympathy for Franklin because, unlike O'Brien, he's gone out of his way to kiss up to the cult and speak of JoePed in glowing terms. If it all comes back to bite his team in the ass, so be it.

The student who wrote that editorial in the Daily Collegian is being subjected to the same misogyny and filth that Pulitzer Prize winner Sara Ganim has received from the Joebots. The comments from the Joebots on that Daily Collegian article are vile. The student who wrote the article has been called a "c***s*****," "Std-infested," "scum," "traitorous," and "trecherous" among the more noteworthy terms.

BWI also has a thread discussing the "losers at the Collegian."

Next they'll be demanding that the school shut down the journalism program.

JoePa's one statement before he kicked the bucket says it all:

on Wednesday morning, Nov., 9, Paterno announced that he intended to retire at season's end, saying, "This is a tragedy. It is one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more."

Nothing else needs to be proven or said....

I hope all Pitt fans wear the tshirt being talked about at the game, "Joe Knew". Go Panthers
