"cruzer, post: 715869, member: 460"]This is a great example of "be careful what you wish for". Most people at A&M were excited about joining the SEC...play the big boys... more prestige....lots more money. But guess what? All that money and prestige may help the finances of the institution, but at the end of the day, it's a whole lot harder to win big and win consistently in SEC. At the end of the day, I think most fans would rather win the Big 12 then finish 4th or 5th in the SEC.
Excellent Post, and I agree with your views and met some A&M Fans that just upset with Texas as well as Nebraska Fans were too, on not allowing Unlimited Non-Qualifiers and OU is still upset wanting more Big-12 Expansion? Texas won't play A&M anymore either? When Texas built the largest Stadium TV Monitor, A&M built one two feet bigger?
Very much mirrors what Penn State did when joining the Big Ten. At first, did very well the first 4 years in the Big Ten beating Michigan and Ohio State and going undefeated in 1994 and Big Ten School's Media and Coaches refused to have them share with Nebraska NCS in 1994, but voted Michigan a share in 1998?
After 1996, Penn State slowly went into a demise losing more often to Michigan and OSU, and lost to Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota and did not really compete for Big Ten Titles that often.
They got a lot more money but also lost more games and Alumni could no longer travel to Away Games like they did had they joined the ACC and sell out most of those Stadiums! This has changed a tad since Maryland & Rutgers added.
Still, Penn State would have remained the biggest University and Premier Football Program in the ACC and Winning would have been easier challenged only by FSU, Clemson, VT and Miami. But Penn State fits right there with Big Ten Universities except NW and money more important as known from the Penn State Football Scandal that also revealed Non-Compliance's & LOIC found so they could compete better and still lost more games??
This is one of the reasons I like Pitt in the ACC. It seems to be a reasonable balance of realistic schedule, prestige, and money.
Agree, Pitt fits better in the ACC with all the ACC Schools Size, Locations, and would have been the Second Smallest School in the Big Ten had they been invited?
Penn State will always have the more Revenue Resources in the Big Ten, but the Wins will always be less too, since Programs just as big in the Big Ten will always find Coaches that win at Michigan, OSU, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Nebraska even as Penn State does the same?
Pitt has better future in the ACC to increase its Wins and build their Program among Schools their same size, bigger footprint in growing south, and with the Richest Football History in the ACC too!
