Stanley Cup Champs!!!

ya Because I was the only one who thought Murray struggled in the final games of the series....I am not saying the kid isn't good. I just do not think he was deserving of the Conn Smythe like some have suggested.

-Murray had a 95% save percentage in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals on the road against the best scoring team in the Western Conference.

-Thank God our Coach was only foolish enough to take him out of net 1 time for Fleury, who ended up losing. Those days are over now.

we won the cup and murray was an important piece of the puzzle. he rebounded after every loss in the playoffs and came back with a win.

I think that's a really important point. He always came back with a good performance after he had a so-so game. That's huge.

Murray never really took over and won a game on his own. But he really never lost one because of his play either. That was plenty for this team.

-Im not going to argue this because we just won the Stanley freakin Cup. All Im going to say is this.

-Pittsburgh won game 1, 3-2 in a late scoring goal. Murray's save percentage was 93%

-Pittsburgh won 2-1 in overtime in game 2. Murray's save percentage was 96% to win the game in overtime.

-Pittsburgh won game 4 on the road 3-1. The score was 2-1 late in the 3rd. Murray's save percentage was 96%.

-Pittsburgh won game 6 on the road 3-1 with a late goal. Murray's save percentage was 95% to win the Stanley Cup.

-If some people want to rag on a rookie goaltender for having 1 off game in game 5 in the Stanley Cup Finals, so be it. He was a brick wall every other game.

You are trying to talk hockey with a guy that thinks James Conner this year will be the equivalent of Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl.

This team would have won with anybody in goal. As most pundants are saying, this team did not rely on a goalie. Their defense and speed won the cup. San Jose had 1 f'ng shot the 3rd period when their season was on the line. That's all you need to know.

There won't be many changes at all to this team. Only to UFA's and not much cap room. Guys like Wilson, Sundqvist, Sprong knocking at the door for PT next year. Only move I can see them doing is getting a defenseman in case Pouliot doesn't improve much in the offseason.

This was a great TEAM win. Conn Smythe could have went to a number of people, no 1 individual carried this team. I agree with Mulburry, this was not a goalie driven team, they probably win the cup if Fleury never gets injured also. This was a masterful job by Rutherford, Sullivan and the "core" Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Kessel, Fleury. Whether it was what they did on the ice, or what they did off the ice (Malking guaranteeing wins and calling the team out, Fleury accepting his role and supporting Murray, Crosby being a true leader) this was awesome!

Absolutely. Total team win. The problem in the past playoff losses it was up to 87/71/18/58 and MAF. If they didn't do it, the Pens didn't win. Now, it is 20 guys, 25 guys, who all contributed.

Holding a desperate team and a very solid SJ team to one shot in the third period was a testament to this teams will to get it done. I mean, they never even gave Murray a reason to make an important save. Unbelievable speed and execution allowed them to play 20 minutes of keep away. The sharks were rendered toothless! Just an incredible team performance. They should have presented the Conn Smythe to the entire team!

-In the last 10 years in the NHL, Marc Andre Fleury's only saved 90% of the shots in the playoffs 3 times in the last 10 years. The 2011-2012 performance against the Flyers was arguably the worst performance by a goaltender I have ever seen. Fluery gave up 4.6 goals per game and had an 83% save percentage which is absolutely pathetic. He had a 16% quality start percentage, which is completely pathetic for a goaltender. This was the best scoring team in the NHL and had the 12th ranked defense in the NHL and we got completely ripped. A year later we were 1st in the league in offense again and ranked 10th in defense. Fleury gives up 3.5 goals per game with an 88% save percentage losing to the Boston Bruins in the Conference Finals. In 2013-2014 we had the 5th best offense in the league and 8th best defense. In game 1 vs the Rangers, we lost in overtime at home, a series that went 7 games. Fleury was diving all over the place not knowing where anything was until the Rangers ended it to win on our home ice.

-Fleury has got to be the most overrated player in Pittsburgh history outside of James Robinson in Pitt basketball. The day he gets traded for nothing so we can sign an Elite wing that can score, this team will be close to unstoppable the next 2 years.

-3 Biggest changes in the Pittsburgh offseason.

1) Sign Bonino for the next 3-4 years, pay him, the HBK line is real, the hype is delivered, the chemistry is there. He wont ask for top dollar, but buy him to keep him here. NO way in hell break up HBK.

2) Dump Fleury. Dump him for next to nothing, let an expansion team take him. He sucks in the playoffs.

3) Im indifferent on this one, but get rid of Kunitz. For a player that has won 3 cups in his career, he simply cant finish and put the puck in the back of the net. He thinks to much when he plays, and isnt worth the money. The wide open goal he passed on to pass to Malkin was plain bad last game. We need 1 more wing that can score, and we wont be stopped next year to repeat as Champions.

4) A 5th Stanley Cup next year is icing on the Cake that we are the baddest best team in hockey. Vegas has Pittsburgh as the odds on favorite to repeat. Enjoy it, we have the most underrated Penguin defense and goalie, probably all time.

We will do a GM recap in the next day. I agree with ONE of the things above. And it is not "dumping" Fleury. Now trading him? Maybe.

-Well, if you were a GM what would you change? We just won the cup with a $6 million dolllar goaltender riding the bench. By all means, tell me and us?

I would try and talk Kunitz into retiring. Take that 4 million savings and go sign a 5/6 defenseman to play with Cole.

I would insert Wilson in for Kunitz.
I would insert Sundqvist in for Cullen.
Sheary would have to fight off Sprong for the winger position next to Crosby.

Then go win another cup with pretty much the same team.

I have a really long post on this, actually I almost posted this during the Caps series, with the comment of "win or lose" the immediate future of the Pens is great.

I also will compare the 2008/2009 Pens, showing how much better shape the Pens are in now compared to then.

Murray was good enough, but every Pens player will tell you they would not have gotten there without MAF. I'm happy they will both get their names on the cup. It was a great team effort.

He made one of the biggest saves in Pens history in 09. He got a concussion and the rookie backup stepped up. That's what he is supposed to do. I think the game Fleury played actually saved the Pens playoffs because it gave a tiring Murray a chance to rest and come back sharp.

The biggest lie is that the team is facing cap issues. They have ELC's on pretty much 7 guys (sheary, rust, wilson, kuhnhackl, dumoulin, murray, pouliot) and that's not counting sprong and sundqvist who are knocking at the door. Add in that if Vegas gets a team, the cap is going up due to additional revenue. Give quebec city a team and it jumps againz

Actually I've seen the odds at two different places and neither one of them have the Pens as the favorite. One has the Blackhawks at 6/1 and the Pens and Caps at 8/1. The other has the Caps at 11/2, the Kings at 6/1 and the Pens at 7/1.

Well SteelCurtain was referring to Las Vegas's little brother St. Vegas. But yes, the Vegas (as in Las Vegas) odds have the Hawks and Caps at 6/1 and the Pens at 8/1. Which makes sense, since there hasn't been a back to back champ since 97-98 Red Wings. It is just hard to do.

Not arguing with you. I'd be very comfortable with the Pens goaltending situation if they were able to move Fluery. He practically acknowledged the writing on the wall post clincher. There's a lot the team could do with a couple of draft picks/prospects and the extra cash on the books.
