DiorSo based on the current roster and injuries, who are your starting 5 and bench in order? Did the scrimmage change anyone’s opinion of anybody on the roster minutes wise?
I would guess:So based on the current roster and injuries, who are your starting 5 and bench in order? Did the scrimmage change anyone’s opinion of anybody on the roster minutes wise?
Dior
Leggett
Austin
Hinson
Fede
Bench regular rotation (should expect all these guys to play in every conference game):
Lowe, Guillermo, Carrington, Jeffress
Deep rotation (playing time likely dependent on guys in foul trouble/getting banged up):
Papa, Jorge (especially after injury), Barnes
Rounded to nearest 5 minutes, conference rotation, assuming good health:PG Dior 30 Lowe 10
SG Leggett 30 Carrington 10
SF/PF by committee
Hinson 32, Austin 16, Jeffress 16, Jorge 16
C Federiko 24 GDG/Kante 16
I agree, although I do not think Austin is a guarantee.Dior

I’d still bet a sizeable sum of money that at the end of this season Guillermo will have more mpg, significantly more mpg, than Jorge. The injury makes this even more certain IMOHe is the better player but he is a 5. They view Jorge as a 4 or 3 and a half. Guillermo is going to play behind Fede and there is Kante there as well. BballinsiderfromPitt says Kante will start and while I dont agree with him, I do agree he is very good, maybe better than Guillermo. We may have 3 5s on this team better than anyone from the end of Dixon 1 to beginning of Capel 2 (besides Adams)
I agree, especially if Carrington plays like I’m expecting him to, which would basically all but box Jorge out of minutes at the 3.I’d still bet a sizeable sum of money that at the end of this season Guillermo will have more mpg, significantly more mpg, than Jorge. G. Diaz will eventually be the best player on this team.I don’t see how Guillermo ends up with less time than Jorge
On this team this year?G. Diaz will eventually be the best player on this team.
Wow, I assume you mean next year, or maybe 2 years?G. Diaz will eventually be the best player on this team.
You may be right. I am just banking on Kante being pretty good and Fede being much improved

If Pitt’s going to maintain this - we probably need the answer next year to be “Dior”
Unless he’s matured and improved. And he will be better. We can only wait and see how much.by conference time, i dont see how jeffress gets more than 5 mpg. barring injuries of course.
That’s fair. I’ve readily admitted that I was never been as high on the Twins as others. But they exceeded my expectations in year one and I hope they will continue doing the same.Long term.
We saw a lot of him in the tournament. I think the potential for a complete game is there. Offensively, he can shoot the three, is a good foul shooter, and has the ability to be a good passer. He hustles on defense and shows the ability to block shots. He seems to have a very high basketball IQ. And, of course, as many have stated, the key thing is for him to get much stronger. If he does, the potential is sky high. That’s fair. I’ve readily admitted that I was never been as high on the Twins as others. They won’t be playing 11 guys in ACC games.
It’ll probably be an 8 man rotation with 1 or 2 guys who can get a spot minute for injuries or foul trouble
If the main guys are so good and they’re playing 11 players it’s coaching malfeasance. Guys like Dior need to play a ton of minutes, have the ball in their hands and get in a groove. You don’t take them out to keep other guys happy. Run them into the ground. Depth means nothing if there is a drop off in talent.Ill take the over on this and Im pretty confident in that. I think this is the deepest team we have had going back to 2011. We have 4 returning players with an ORTG over 109, 4 top 100 players added, and 2 transfers. My prediction from here is that Barnes is out of the rotation and Jeffress is going to find it difficult getting minutes anywhere.
I think we have a lot of useful parts here to take advantage in matchup situations against opposing teams. We can add size when needed, more shooting when needed, better rebounding when needed, more athletic ability when needed, 3 ball dominant guards when needed, etc...
9 man rotation come ACC playThey won’t be playing 11 guys in ACC games.

This isn’t high school or daddy ball. You don’t play guys just to keep them at Pitt the next year or keep them happy. Guys like Jeffress are completely useless.
Guys who won’t average 10 MPG in ACC Games:
1. Jeffress
2. Barnes
3. One of the guards
4. One of the bigs
5. One of the twins
The reports coming out now mean nothing. Every coach likes their team in summer, every player looks good and the freshmen are going against guys who were in lower level leagues for the most part. To just declare there’s as much depth as a #1 seed is another insane post by you.
Please stop using advanced stats to explain everyone of your thoughts. You’re hyping up GDG to a level he can’t possibly obtain. The last time you did this was Femi Odukale and I kept telling you it was a small sample size and that Femi stunk.
I’m not saying GDG stinks, I’m saying advanced stats on smaller opportunities are meaningless
Yeah we’re in agreement… I think there will be a 9th guy playing in almost every game just not sure of the position. Playing 11 guys is stupid. It was stupid when Calipari did it with 10 top 50 guys9 man rotation come ACC play
4) I absolutely did not say our team was dead in the water lol. They were practically in the tournament by then? But yes they made it to the round of 32 by having 4 5th year and beyond guards and Hinson doing Hinson things. Not because of Diaz Graham.1) There isnt going to be heavy separation between the main starters and the backups like in 2009 where we had a dominant big 3 that were all american level. Dior is going to get his 30 minutes per game or so and put up strong numbers. Hinson is going to get his 30 minutes per game and put up strong numbers. And Leggett is going to play a lot. I think we can / will rotate 10 depending on matchups for a lot of the year. That is what we used in 2011. Not every player is going to play every game. But I predict they will be used and not permanently benched once ACC conference play starts.
2) The depth is going to be good. The depth was good last year. We dont have a high end starting 5 on paper. We do have a lot of depth. We didn't have a high end starting 5 last year either. We had a high end starting 5 in 2011 and in 2009 with depth to back it up. You can have a lot of depth without a high end starting 5, which is what we have.
3) I dont pay any attention to practice reports right now or games played right now. I pay a lot of attention to what is going on in late September and October in the practice reports. Anything right now to me is pretty meaningless.
4) What hype in regards to GDG are you referencing? I simply posted stats. It was you that forecasted our team was dead in the water when Fede got hurt and was obnoxiously loud in saying so. That couldn't of been further from the truth. We won 2 NCAA Tournament games with GDG as the full time starter with good numbers to back it up.
5) I think before next season is over, Kante is going to force his way into more playing time at the expense of others. That could mean Hinson gets some run at the 3. I also think its possible that Kante may be our teams best defensive player and most efficient rebounder next year.
6) Opinions can differ, but I think Fede's defensive capabilities are greatly overrated. Ill be surprised if he is over 20 minutes per game. He is going to be heavily challenged to hold his minutes.
I hope not, because I'd like to see the team make the tournament each of the years he has left.On this team this year?
Yeah we’re in agreement… I think there will be a 9th guy playing in almost every game just not sure of the position. Playing 11 guys is stupid. It was stupid when Calipari did it with 10 top 50 guys
Yeah, I think after the starting five, you have a few battles:I agree with this in general.
However, I think we'll see 3 (Fede, Papa, GDG) getting minutes at center on a regular basis, dice the minutes up however you wish. And I tihnk Lowe will get 8 a game backing up Dior. IF this plays out, the rotation is already at 8, so it wouldn't be a stretch to see 5 players getting minutes at the other 3 positions combined.
Good analysis. They have options for almost every situation. It isn’t depth until they prove themselves in ACC competition. Roster looks pretty solid as currently constructed, just way too young for my likingYeah, I think after the starting five, you have a few battles:
1. The first guard off the bench behind Dior and Leggett. If Dior picks up two fouls, do they bring in Lowe, or does Leggett become the primary ballhandler and they bring in Carrington? If Leggett picks up two fouls, do they bring in Lowe to be a co-ballhandler kind of deal with Dior, or do they bring in Carrington?
2. Jeffress is in two minutes battles: one with Carrington to share minutes with Austin, and one with Jorge to share minutes with Blake. Can he win one of them and stay ahead of one of those guys?
3. The minute share at the 5. I’m guessing it’ll be two guys who get the overwhelming bulk of the minutes, with the third still playing a decent amount just because there are going to be games where one or both of the other guys get in foul trouble. Are they able to squeeze in regular minutes for a third guy? Who’s the backup - Fede or Kante?
I think if the staff had its choice, it’d be for Jeffress’ offensive game to improve enough that they could have a tight 8 man rotation with Lowe as the backcourt bench guy behind Dior and Leggett, Jeffress as the wing bench guy behind Austin and Hinson, and Guillermo as the backup 5, with Carrington as the ninth guy because of the backcourt/wing versatility, and Kante getting minutes when Fede and Guillermo are in trouble. The question is whether Jeffress’ growth can justify that.
They’ve got options. Hope it turns into depth!Good analysis. They have options for almost every situation. It isn’t depth until they prove themselves in ACC competition. Roster looks pretty solid as currently constructed, just way too young for my liking
