State of Ohio looking to sue Big Ten

You cant take football from these people. They should be back playing soon enough. I don't understand why the Big Ten just didn't cancel all fall seasons but allow their teams to compete as independents.
I don't know how much I can say this... But the Big 10 screwed up. They thought everyone would follow their lead, that they would be the hero in putting "safety" above profit and their lap dog the Pac 12 followed them. No one else did. Uh Oh.

The hypocrisy is, while they cancelled games, the teams are still playing football, at least in the form of practice. How much sense does this make? And then they opened up on campus access for all students, in which is completely an uncontrolled environment whereas football can be somewhat controlled.

They have a new commissioner. He blinked and folded his hand. No way this happens under Jim Delany.

pandemic, unemployment and all kinds of other problems and this is the stuff that the state of ohio prioritizes.

Not that this solves all the unemployment but a lot of jobs are created around those 6 to 7 home games a year. Even the away games create employment as local restaurants will still carry the game. Might not help an auto worker but it helps the bartender.

Still takes the presidents of each school to vote. I'm no lawyer but it comes down to the B1G bylaws and this guy knows that. It's very likely that in order to have any standing, the president of Ohio State would have had to have voted to play and then filed some kind of dissent with the league office over the final decision to have standing and that's only if something happened that went against the leagues bylaws or contracts. My guess is that if the vote was legal, there's nothing anyone can do.

Yep. It was looking very bleak and even the SEC Commish had a dark outlook for the season. I do believe they thought the other conferences would follow so now they look really terrible. Although I do agree they made the proper decision, they have no choice but to play now because the pressure of not playing is greater than the public health risk to these people.

Political grandstanding really doesn't cost that much and it's not like there is much else an AG can do to fix pandemics or unemployment.

i'd argue that an AD is needed during crisis more than ever. consumer protections, navigating federal legislation, fighting to keep utilities on, rent/mortgage protections, helping small businesses. lots to be done instead of spending time on the college's issues. they have plenty of lawyers.

But there is no more of a health risk than the actual act of running a college. That was my point. Why separate football from this?

It makes zero sense. There is zero science behind my statement, but one would think that the actual game itself is far less of a risk than practices, locker rooms, pre and post game meals, team meetings, etc. etc. etc. Why carry on football activities and gather all of those people in locker rooms and whatnot? That is the real risk in my opinion.

Craziness. The Big Ten Commissioner Warren acted on behalf of the Big Ten presidents who voted to delay the season. Are they going to sue the presidents? Ohio State is a garbage football program that's grown far too big. Maybe the Buckeyes should just be a pro franchise. They do one good thing every other year - beat Penn State.

I understand that Ohio State and Iowa objected to delaying the season. The Big Ten ought to threaten to without the mega-dollars they get from the conference.

Only in so much as the law is violated but that’s pretty much status quo.
