Steelers vs Eagles (Donny Football poll)

  • Kenny starts and wins

    Votes: 69 59.0%
  • Steelers win

    Votes: 48 41.0%

  • Total voters

Why is that? Is it jealousy? They are so upset that Pitt football doesn't get the attention the Steelers get AND DESERVE? Or they come from somewhere else and root for other NFL teams?
It’s a Pitt board. What % here are steeler fans? A significant % for sure, but plenty are not. There are people here who came to Pitt from all over, particularly eastern PA.

I get that, I also hear the attitude of hating the NFL, loving college football and being from Pittsburgh and having a hard time coping with the fact that the Steelers will always be the #1 football team in Pittsburgh.

Something like 35% of Pitt students are not from Pennsylvania. Given all the PA students from central and eastern PA, and from up around Erie that wouldn't have any more reason to be a Stiller fan as opposed to a Bills or Browns fan, probably more than half of Pitt students would have no geographic reason to be a Stiller fan.

When I was at Pitt, I learned really fast not to use the terms tennis shoes, pop, and yinz.

Easy choice for me because I’m an Eagles fan 😬. I love the Steelers too, but the Eagles are my #1.

I grew up in eastern Pa as an Eagles fan, and never cared about the Steelers one way or another. After all the crap I took from Steelers fans, I now hope that the Steelers lose every game for the rest of their existence. I also met Roethlisberger and he was a humongous jerk.

Yeah, that's interesting to me, I never knew anyone like that. people I've known are like me, I have a favorite team in every sport and don't care at all about individual players, just root for whoever is wearing my laundry.
You've never met anyone like SMF?? Shocking!

Donny Football needs to change his name to
Donny Football En Aht. Just in case there is another Donny Football somewhere in America doing sports talk

I feel largely the same and despise the Steelers and a good portion of the fanbase, but you have the wrong take on this. It's better to root for them to keep on doing what they've been doing for a decade. Slightly above .500 every year with no chance to win when it matters. That hurts the franchise more than some terrible seasons here and there. Plus, a lot of fans love to beat their chest about that meaningless 'streak', which is unbelievable to me. When I was in Pittsburgh in the early 2000's, it was a "Super Bowl or failure" mindset. I'm shocked at how expectations have changed for so many.

I don’t listen to that station much but caught him for a few. He has one of the heaviest Pittsburgh accents I’ve ever heard. The only ones worse are when a local reporter almost always inevitably finds the biggest yinzer in any particular neighborhood and they end up on the local news.

As a Steelers fan, this is all true. Rooney looked across the parking lot and saw another pro sports franchise that somehow manages to consistently avoid success and remains popular AND make money. I swear the Steelers are slipping that direction.

I knew people from Erie and they were Steelers fans, as where a lot of people from Eastern Ohio, Youngstown etc.

Kenny would put up some points with that Eagles offense. There's a reason the Sreelers drafted 3 OLs early this year, to go along with their #1 OL pick last year. The OL was atrocious. No QB would have succeeded behind that line.

I’d estimate that 40% of this board are steeler fans, 15% Eagle fans, and 45% other.

And of those 40% steeler fans on this board, 39% of them would want the Steelers to beat Kenny and the Eagles.

And weirdly that’s pretty close to the results of the poll in the OP.

That would be another interesting poll for this board. I have always tended to think that Pitt fans are usually Steelers fans too, and that's probably because 90% of my personal Pitt friends and family root for the Steelers.

Yeah I could be way off. Start the poll.

In this order:

I am a Pitt fan first….

A Steelers fan second….

A fan of Pitt players in the NFL third…

I did not root for the Cowboys when Dorsett played with them vs the Steelers…

I did not root for the Rams when Donald played with them against the Steelers

I will not root for the Eagles if Kenny starts against the Steelers either….

You have 100% of the board represented above. That's assuming that every poster is an NFL fan.

Up until about 30 years ago I was a Steelers fan, but I'm not a fan of any pro teams, now.

I don't root against the Steelers, either, so in a weird way, I guess I could be considered in your 40% total.

There absolutely are people from Erie or eastern Ohio who are Stiller fans. Just like there are people from places in western PA who are not.

I mean surely you aren't arguing that because you knew someone from Erie or eastern Ohio who are Stiller fans that that means all people, or even most people from those areas, are Stiller fans, are you?

Not sure, most of the people I know from these places are.

I grew up a huge Steelers fan but for years now I’ve been Pitt first by a wide margin.

If Kenny plays against the Steelers I’ll be rooting for the Eagles to win.

Also, the Eagles are just a better team they would likely beat the Steelers with Tino Sunseri playing QB

Neither Dorsett or Donald were drafted by the Steelers, and then screwed-over by them — totally different situation! If Kenny plays against the Steelers, I hope he beats the snot out of them!

You despise everything, dude. Your existence on this board is solely to personally attack people; you contribute nothing meaningful. Nobody, and I mean nobody, is beating their chest about this streak. To a man, people have said they don't want to hear about the streak and would rather win playoff games.

Are you kidding? Start a thread on Tomlin and watch all the guys come out defending him because of the streak.

I’m pretty much like this too. A lot of things annoyed me with the Steelers’ handling of Pickett and so many other obnoxious Steelers fans, but that still just can’t overtake my fandom. Ultimately I just wish they didn’t draft him and I sort of felt that way from the start, because it’s pretty clear it would’ve been best for both parties (although I do wonder where he would’ve went if not for us).

James Conner had over 100 yds and 2 TD’s against the Steelers in that awful loss to the Cardinals. If anything, it was a decent consolation to an otherwise miserable loss.

How many of these obnoxious Steelers fans (regarding Pickett) has everyone actually encountered in real life? Genuinely curious. I feel like it was another case of anonymous accounts on social media giving people the courage to say things they never would in real life.

That’s a good point. I try to avoid looking at replies to certain things on Twitter, although sometimes I can’t help myself.
