Yes, some of our poorest states pay their coaches the most. But, they fill 100K stadiums every week and have legions of boosters. Not sure how it makes them stupid when they have the money to spare.

There is no excuse for the corrupt State of poltical affairs in PA, but one thing I have learned in my decades on the planet is this: if you have next to nothing going for you and you have any fighting spirit, you will pour your heart and soul into what little you have.
Some people call that Pride.
