“They made one more play than we did,” Narduzzi said while dissecting Pitt's second consecutive late-game loss, 37-36, to North Carolina...........“That excuse is kind of getting old,” he said. “But it's the second week in a row I had to say it (Pitt lost to Oklahoma State with 1 minute, 28 seconds left). We have to fix something.” Narduzzi agrees, but he didn't promise to make personnel changes in advance of Pitt's nonconference game Saturday against Marshall at Heinz Field..............Rather, he defended quarterback Nathan Peterman, spoke glowingly of redshirt freshman linebacker Saleem Brightwell's first start and pointed the finger of blame at himself and his staff................“I'm a firm believer we have a lot of the right players on the field. It's our job as coaches to get them to do it the right way and do it better.“That's what I love. That's why I coach this game. “It doesn't help just to throw a guy to the street and think that's going to be the answer.”..............“It's a game of inches and we have to find them,” he said. “We're going to get a little bit simpler and hone in on the details of what we need to do to be perfect.” He deflected a suggestion that Pitt fails to play with a killer instinct, defiantly declaring, “I never saw (players) quit. We will never see them quit. I don't think that's in their DNA.”...............On the other side of the ball, Narduzzi said Pitt needs improvement in the passing game. Yet, he added, “Nathan played darn good. (He) missed one throw, really, all day.” He was referring to a third-and-4 misfire early in the fourth quarter. "It's hard to be near-perfect,” Narduzzi said. “We can do a little better job throwing it, but not much better.”
