Tons of positives from the game yesterday and some negatives but remember its Albany:
1. Theres only one defensive stat that matters to me. Points allowed. Gave up 7. Thats a big positive. Couple that with 5 sacks, 2 int which should have been 3, a bunch of tfl its a very good opening performance. Dont get hung up on individual plays look at body of work. And we ran a very vanilla d, no stunts, no exotic coverages, base d a lot.
2. Kenny Pickett has complete control of the offense. Makes all the right reads doesnt make mistakes but he needs to not take hits.
3. Early impression of ol is that it looks more like a road grader group than a pass blocking one. Bookster wasnt in there but thought the pass blocking wasnt where it needs to be. Thought both tackles looked slow to me in their drops. Tough to tell from the stands though, but Pickett was flushed from pocket way too much for my taste.
4. Someone who doesnt look slow is q. Ollison. Looks downright svelte and really was hitting the hole with authority. In fact i thought all the rb looked really good. Davis reminds me a little of charles gladman in his running style. Yes i am old.
5. Initial impression of the wr corps was really good. Finally we have a diversified group of weapons.
Really good to see. Pickett did a good job of spreading the wealth too.
6. Just cant miss an extra point
7. Boy I didnt watch the penn state games sounds like their defense is a major work in progress
8. At halftime i turned to someone in the stands and said Pickett should sit 2nd half. Get Towns some snaps, i mean if pickett goes down we are toast.
9. Thought Wiginis looked really stout. Really plugs holes well big taking on blockers major upgrade at mlb. I also focused on Paris Ford a lot, and he was glued to his man. Got tons of play.
10. For a holiday weekend and a dreadfully hot day pleasantly surprised at the turnout.
11. Saw bits and pieces of nd mich. pretty dull game. UM offense really is way too conservative. Run run pass. Predictable. I guess lets hold off on Tom Herman being the savior at Texas for at least one more week.
12. No major injuries, a no doubter, and some damn good ribs after.. i will take it.
