That felt so good! Watched game at Durden in NYC with a slew of Pitt fans. Great win:
1. Congrats to the entire team. After sitting through the horror of the Penn State game and to see how far they have come it is really a testament to all. Very proud of this team. Coach Narduzzi’s numbers are really starting to be impressive. No doubt whatsoever that he is the coach for this program.
2. Best part of the game by far is that we won it on Pickett’s arm. With Wake run blitzing and filling gaps, Watson dialed up his young qb with a series of deep look ins, deep slants and pretty much everything coming out of Pickett’s hands was on target. With Mack back and Ffrench establishing himself as a legit threat this offense, this offense is much more diverse and lethal. Dont look now but Pickett has not only been good he has been interception free for 6 games. His mechanics with a clean pocket were very good.
3. The refs in a word were awful. Phantom calls on holds, pass interferences, just horrible. The ref nearest to the scary facemask on Carter wast even going to bother to throw a flag. Frankly they were a disgrace.
4. Curious to see how we handle the Miami game. Lets face it, the game is purely for cosmetics. Do you rest banged up starters and give players who havent played a chance to play? Do you play it straight up and risk injury? I might treat it as an NFL exhibition and play starters for a half but me thinks he wont. I know some care about 8 wins, i care more about being full strength for Clemson.
5. Patrick Jones might play with a bit of an edge but hes very twitchy, very active. His motor is very high and its obvious hes a playmaker. He is more disruptive than Hendrix and uses his hands better.
6. Defense is really playing well on all levels. The d line is staying in their gaps and shutting the run and pressuring the pocket. The linebackers have really been stout. Cam Bright is a star in the making and I think Pine is too if he can stop freelancing so much and this might be surprising but the drop off from Werginis has been very minor. The biggest improvement has been the secondary, and their ability to play the bubble screens and their tackling.
7. I guess we can tone down the criticism of Watson a bit.
8. Matt Canada called the right play just atrocious execution. Please dont tell me Ohio State should even sniff the playoff if they beat Michigan. WVU ruined Friday Night.
9. I salute Jimbo Covert and Danny Marino for going to the game. Covert was in a bunch of my classes and a genuinely nice guy. We both were English Majors. Love it when the players come back to the program.
10. No one will give them a chance against Clemson but i will say this they will not be intimidated and they will punch the Tigers in the mouth. They will make it a rock fight. I want it to be a game like the ND game. Thats the blueprint.
11. I am very excited for the future if this program because quietly we have accumulated some depth, talent in all areas. Maybe the weakest might be Offensive Line but thats actually the one area where you can groom jumbo athletes to be linemen.
12. Coastal Champs! Nice ring but I am going to dream higher goals for a few days because I can. Love it! Hail to Pitt.
