Bearing in mind that ...

Most things are neither as good or as bad they first seem
Capel is good man who has done some good thing and brought in better players
A rebuild takes time and improvement comes in fits and starts
It's good to take the long view and not panic...

My main takeaway is that this season is just no fun or, frankly, that interesting.

What i like most about college b-ball is the way each season unfolds:
using the pre-conference games to figure out the rotation;
how returnees improve from the previous year;
how freshman and new players start to "get it" late January and early Feb.
how a coach tinkers and adjusts to prepare for the stretch run

Granted, this season is just strange, with fewer games and repeated cancellations.
And it looks like most teams are nowhere near as sharp as you'd expect but still...

At the beginning of this year I posted that this is when we find out if Capel can coach.
The jury is still out but...
this team's performance,
lack of cohesion,
incoherent offense,
repeated defensive breakdowns, and
most off all, lack of improvement
are worrisome

At times , it seemed JC tried to honor Jon Thompson by emulating his ineffective offense and moving the ball aimlessly around the perimeter.

I don't expect to be a consistent winner yet.
I just want to see some improvement.
Ain't seeing it.

Basketball is fun when you're competitive in your conference.
I still hope he'll get there.
But this is NOT fun and difficult to watch

Mike Young

People are going to get pissed at you if you keep parroting “Mike Young” in all these type threads. It doesn’t mean there isn’t a good bit of truth to it though. Basketball isn’t like football, it only takes a couple players to get it turned around quickly. Nothing is 100%, but if a college basketball coach hasn’t gotten it done in 3-4 years more than likely he never will.

That's why I say if next year sucks and the 2022 class sucks, its time to move on because its never going to happen.

Yes. I would like to be taken away from this season.

I really think they have to make the tournament next year. Or be very close. Lyke doesn't seem to be someone who will stand for regression or a low plateau we are already on. The fact we have had the talent to beat ranked teams each year and then turn around and lose teams in the bottom half of the conference when it matters the most is very disconcerting.

And I really like Capel and want him to succeed very badly. So I don't say this willy nilly. But it is getting to the point where something has to give. We need to get back to the tournament before we end up mired in mediocrity again. Its already been too long.
