Texas HC Chris Beard -- this is very unfortunate -- and interesting in comparison ...

Based on the arrest report, we’ve probably seen the last of Beard. Very disturbing stuff.

Feel for those kids and those around the program. They certainly didn’t sign up to be part of this and now this story is going to become the main talking point.
Sad because he is a fantastic coach. Alcohol ruined his life.

Not for nothing but I’ve heard of multiple violations of practice time and other stuff at Texas.

Yeah, it’s very much secondary right now given the events of the last 24 hours but he really is/was one of the best pure coaches in the country.

Rice is currently up on Texas at the half. That’s a very good Texas team as well. It would be a shame to see their season get wrecked because of the abhorrent actions of their coach, but it’s going to be a tough ride for those kids all season as this plays out.

Why do you think it’s a fallacy ?
Sheesh most every woman I know has stories
If you really believed that to be the case (one out of every five girls sexually assaulted while away at school) then you would have to be one sick SOB to send your daughter off to college then...am I not correct in that? If there was a one in five chance your wife or daughter would be sexually assaulted at the grocery store would you let them go shopping by themselves?

1 in 3 Texans will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. ...I love these sweeping generalizations (such as what constitutes domestic violence in this context) that are in no way based on actual fact....

Reminds me of the 1 in 5 women will be victims of sexual assault or in college fallacy..

Those stats are just garbage that the media tries to shove down our throats to make us fearful of everything. I realize that there are people out there who are victims of assault or violence. I'm not downplaying that. But it's not the lies that the media tries to push to cause fear.

You know the stats cited in my post were taken from the Texas Department of Public Safety, right? Are you implying that Texas is reporting garbage stats?

I previously posted relevant articles and links that said the opposite of what you posted. It's ok. All of us can always find stuff that supports what we think is correct and supports our agendas. They could be completely different and usually are, but both could be right in different ways. That's why I find it difficult to believe anything reported in the media and by the government as fact.

Please, let's not belabor this stuff and just talk about the topic of discussion.

But you didn’t -but I suppose if you did you were furthering an agenda , right ?!?

The topic is a domestic abuser.

I did. You just didn't read them as posts were correctly removed from this thread. I quoted 2 sources.....one was the NY Post and one was the FBI. I don't think that's furthering an agenda. I'm not quoting them again. They are easily researched on the internet.

Wait, so the media has an agenda when you disagree but is legit when you agree?

Sexual assault doesn’t have to be rape. It can be a lot of things where it is considered unwanted, with no consent.
Perfect example, when my oldest was in high school a boy was grabbing girls asses with no consent. He tried it on our daughter and she dropped him. She got suspended and we fought it with one simple statement. You want to suspend victims of assault when they fight back to protect themselves? Is that what you want the local media to hear about?
It is assault when it’s an ass grab, touching breasts without consent, and so on.
When you have 3 daughters, you don’t brush off even the little things. I do believe girls are assaulted in high rates. You mix alcohol with dumbass boys you get boys thinking they have a right to do things to women. You see it all the time.

I'm sorry but I'm just going to say it. After he serves whatever legal punishment and court-mandated anger management classes or whatever, I'd hire him next year. He's an elite coach who is now attainable.

Thank you. My wife has been grabbed inappropriately on the street before and my daughter (only 16) has had one "longer term" boyfriend who she broke up with for trying to coerce her into sex without a condom.

I think if you get close with enough women that they're comfortable telling you the truth, you'll hear a lot of these stories, including rape and escapes from attempts including at college. And some from men of course too. I mean we had a basketball coaching growing up who is now known as a molester. And a priest very briefly assigned to our church growing up, St Alphonsus, who was in the files released about molesters. I worked on a boat before and we had multiple workers fired for trying to sexually assault both men and women when alone in an area. I'm sure vets can tell stories too, especially women vets.

I got 3 sisters and to anyone who thinks those numbers are inflated are holding fingers in their ears and yelling la la la.

That stuff is happening all the way down to early grade school. Makes me wonder what parents are teaching their sons, if anything.

How did this turn into sexual assault? The topic we were originally discussing was domestic violence. And it's very nebulous with how many people are affected by that since many people don't report it. Sexual assault or any form of it is another subject. I know my wife has been subjected to it since I was dating her. She is attractive (actually beautiful) but that doesn't give some guy license to follow her into a store or make propositions to her on the street or in a supermarket. This stuff happens to more women, and some men, more than anyone even understands.

But yet you think domestic violence is not common - and is inflated for some mysterious agenda ?!?
Logic is lacking here

So when the day comes that Narduzzi moves on . . . you would rehire Haywood?

If Haywood went on to become a Top 5 D1 coach somewhere else, then yes. Beard is an elite coach. Once he serves his legal penalty and completes mandated rehab, I'd hire him in a second and be entertained as heck watching my Panthers in the NCAAT. If he ever did something like that again, it would be 5-10 years down the road after many NCAATs so you fire him then and move on. No brainer.

Aren’t you the same guy who just said if someone abuses a woman (paraphrasing) that he should be done? Does that apply only to players or just whatever way the wind blows?

Nah. I think people sometimes forget that while super high profile and talented in maybe elite ways, they’re still human beings prone to the same things as anyone else. These incidents get all the attention and we then think how could they be that stupid as to blow it.
My guess is that the loyal denizens of this site don't act that way. Lots of celebrities think they have immunity. A grown man collecting millions should know better. I hope he gets help and can heal his family.

I would have probably tossed Dior since he was on campus a week and never played and had a questionable background. I also said his minimum suspension should be 1 year. If Beard did this at Pitt before he coached a game, I'd say to fire him. If he was a successful coach for several years and had no priors, I'd say suspend him for a year.

What's the difference between someone who's only been here for a week and someone who has never been here? And why is that enough to treat the two differently?

The same difference between that point guard for UConn a while back getting a much lesser punishment for the laptop theft. Or the outcome of James Harrison as opposed to Cedrick Wilson.

We all could have written his response. I knew pretty close to exactly what was coming. And I’m sure you were no less surprised either.

Because Beard would have already served a 1 year suspension, essentially. And he's gone, what 50 years without doing something like this. Johnson is only 18 and has a questionable background making it seem like he's capable of other things.

Had Jamie Dixon done this after taking us to the Elite 8, I would have said 1 year suspension. Had Capel done it, I would have said fire him. The individual in question matters. The minimum though has to be a 1 year suspension IMO

For those that abuse there’s always a first time. Color me skeptical that this was his first time at his age.

We’ll see how this goes. A lot may depend on how much his wife wants to pursue it. Also things from someone’s past can tend to start leaking when there’s a giant contract that someone might wanna get out of.

And neither Dixon nor Capel are the type of person who would commit this type of crime, I would suspect. I know it's not 100% sure, but I'd wager a hell of a lot of money that Dixon and Capel wouldn't be involved in assault on anyone. Beard allegedly assaulted someone and has probably done this in the past. Even at Johnson's young age, I'd wager this was probably not his first time committing assault either. Character matters.
