That's why the Rooney's have real grass

This is kind of a myth and I have never seen a study saying grass was safer. If 270 pound Ben is planted in grass, the result is the same. The downside to grass is all the pulled groins from slips on muddy grass or concussions on a frozen dirt. Artificial stuff does not freeze and maintains a cushion.

Spikes sink into ans surface and I bet that play is the same at Heinz. Just my opinion having played on the surface a lot for different recreational activities. The fake stuff showcases athleticism.

I thought he was referring to the turf catching on fire.

Umm...I'm pretty sure the grass surface at Heinz is heated to some degree.

It is heated but not during games. If it were, the field would steam below 40 degrees creating a cloud to make the game unwatchable.

Well then you haven't really looked, because pretty much every study ever done has shown that grass is safer. The gap between the two is narrowing, but it is still real.

That is the man reason why when the PG did a poll of the Stiller players a few years ago whether they wanted the field to remain grass or be changed to turf every player surveyed with (if I remember correctly) two exceptions said they wanted the field to remain grass (and one of the two was the kicker). That's the real reason that there is no chance that the Stillers are going to switch to turf, not some silly notion that it's all the Rooney's doing. The Rooney's are simply listening to their players. If the opinions of the players changes to a significant degree then I guarantee you Heinz Field will get turf. Until then it won't, no matter how much Pitt fans bitch about it.

Notre Dame switched from grass to field turf last season, so there is a chance.

The NFL put in rules to prevent defenders from going low on quarterbacks. Last time I checked that rule didn't only apply when quarterbacks played on artificial turf fields.

Ben is injured because the defender went low on him while he was in the pocket, he would have gotten hurt on either artificial turf or grass. And in addition to Notre Dame switching to field turf the Houston Texans also switched to field turf.

Now there's no chance at AstroTurf at Heinz Field.
Is the subject here in reference to Ben or the fire? Don't think grass would have made one damn bit of difference in this play in regards to injury. Don't think grass would have made one damn bit of difference with the fire either as I remember "disco sucks" night a old Comiskey.

What? This can't be right. During the Stiller game Phil Simms is talking about Joe Flacco and how he loves coming to Pittsburgh to play and one of the reasons he loves it is the grass field, "players love grass fields and what it does to their bodies when they play on it."

What? That can't be right! The only reason Heinz doesn't have turf is that the Rooneys are too cheap. Obviously.

Yeah, watching your stud RB fall short of a first down because he slips on a huge hunk of sand laden, sod that goes flying in dry conditions? So fun to watch.

Whether it's fun to watch or not, it has ABSOLUTELY nothing at all to do with why there is grass there. As long as the players prefer grass by an overwhelming margin like they currently do the grass stays. Simple as that.
