The 3-2-1 Column: Expectations, forgotten players, crazy recruiting and more

In this week’s 3-2-1 Column, we’re thinking about NFL connections, high expectations, forgotten players, forgotten teams and recruiting craziness.

1. No mention of Ironhead in your discussion of great Pitt backs? Pitt’s last RB who was first team AA and Heisman finalist.

2. How do you compare the performance of Chryst era backs versus Narduzzi era backs without a mentioning the offensive lines under each coach? Without a strong O line, the running backs don’t have a chance no matter how much talent they may have. Narduzzi has been woeful in recruiting and developing his O line. Just as Chryst was woeful at recruiting and developing the defensive side of the ball.

With Ironhead, his name didn't get mentioned but there were really two categories of backs I cited: recent stars like Conner and McCoy and guys who had multiple 1,000-yard seasons - two groups that Ollison fits into but Ironhead doesn't. So he didn't figure into the discussion.

As for the OL, yes, that's notable but 2019 was the first time Pitt played with an all-Narduzzi line, so it's not really relevant as a comparison point. Narduzzi's running backs still haven't done much even when they were running behind Chryst's linemen.
