The 3-2-1 Column: The latest commits and the start of training camp

What about the biggest question mark of them all, that nobody seems concerned about----we are on our 3rd OC in 4 years, and Watson Year 1 was not a good start. I recognize we had QB and OL problems, but Watson didn't come to Pitt with the most impressive resume, and he certainly did nothing last season to engender any confidence as to his capabilities.

You answered your own question. If the QB is terrible and you play a challenging schedule; you are going to struggle regardless of the who is the OC.

That same team with Nate Peterman wins 9 games; 8 games minimum.

We'll see.

I think there's one primary reason Pitt had its most prolific offense in school history in 2016, and it wasn't Nathan Peterman.

Chris - Your article made way too much sense and was way too optimistic for the "realist" on this board... You need to get with the narrative bro...

Nobody eats their own like Pitt fans constant negativity, constant criticism, constant whining....

1. Nobody can do it better than them. Whether it's coaching, developing players, hiring coaches, recruiting, etc...They have the wisdom and knowledge and experience to do it bigger and better.

2. When it comes to commitments, if they are rated a 4 star, they are destined for greatness, even if they have less than three P5 offers. If they are a 3 star player with lots of P5 offers, they will tell you that the offers aren't real.

About a 25% of the class right now is basically an FCS offer list class, with maybe a single offer from a team like Wake thrown in for a few of them. If we did that every class, you're talking 21ish players out of the 85 scholarship athletes. That's a hole.
And I could maybe live with that, or could be a little less vocal about it, if it was being balanced out at the top. If 20 to 25% of the scholarships were high ranking players. Solid 4* guys. But they aren't; we're looking at 6 to 8 4* players on the 85 man roster next season. That type of FCS to 4* talent balance just doesn't work.
You can't take a talent level that is already fairly weak at the top, and then bottom out the floor of it.

Both can be true. We had horrible QB play last year, and and Watson's entire history as an OC is basically average to bad.

My exact opinion. My biggest issues is they are taking these players this early which means they aren't hopeful they can reel in better targets closer to NSD. Yes, some lower ranked players out perform their ranking but when 25% of your class does not have an FBS offer that doesn't bode well for the future, especially when there aren't any blue chips to balance out the projects.

Agree with this 100%. I usually do not get worried about the final rankings bc HCPN usually recruits a lot better towards the end of the cycle by bringing in 4 stars then, but this class is getting full a little too quick. Lets pray for no decommitments.

You’re literally the only person saying this.

1. You don't follow college football and don't know what you are talking about.

2. No one is saying that and that isn't a relatable example.

It was a number of things. Saying it was one primary reason is wrong.

They essentially had a full starting lineup that are NFL players or at least were in camps for awhile. They had good players at all positions.

Canada was mediocre. He was being booed in the second half of the PSU game because he was choking to death. We were lucky to win that one. He did the same thing against NC and lost that game for us. He was also hearing it late in the GaTech game, which was only won with a lucky deflection. Canada may be the most overrsted sports personality in PGH sports history.

I'm pretty sure the main reason the masses liked Canada is because they brought onto the lie that taxpayer funded health care is free.
