In this week’s 3-2-1 Column, we’re thinking about secret weapons, transition classes, ranking recruits, hoops additions and more.

Quite frankly, I probably should have broken a few of these topics - like ranking the biggest positive surprise in each of the last 10 recruiting classes - into a separate article, but oh well. It's Friday, so dig in.

I realize these kinds of things are subjective, but how can the biggest surprises of any of those years that you targeted not be AD and Brian O'Neill?

O'Neill had one P5 offer--Pitt--starts as a TE, and ended up getting drafted in the 2nd round after a stellar career at OT. AD come in with 2 lowly P5 offers--Pitt and Rutgers--and, well, we know the rest. Meanwhile, TJ Clemmings comes in as one of Pitt's highest ranked recruits in decades with offers from just about everyone, does almost nothing at DE for 3 years before being moved to OT, where he had a great finish to his career. And he's a bigger "positive surprise" than AD? How?

Addendum-I just realized there was no mention in your article of a a little known defensive end from Erie in the 2013 class named Conner. One P5 offer.

Not to nitpick, but those are kind of no-brainers by any criteria.
