had a Pitt question in his mailbag in The Athletic and thought I would post. It seems like The Athletic actually talks about Pitt basketball some which is nice to see.
Thoughts on Pitt this upcoming year? With a good recruiting class coming and transfer Ithiel Horton, Jeff Capel’s team should be trending upwards. With Xavier Johnson, Au’Diese Toney and Justin Champagnie already in the fold, could this team be NCAA bound or more likely NIT? — Scott H.
Next season feels like the cusp season, doesn’t it? What does that mean? In well-paced rebuilding jobs, the third or fourth season is often the year the program in question makes its biggest improvement leap, gets onto the bubble or at least into the NIT, does well in that tournament, and carries that over into the following season. You see it all the time. That feels like Pitt’s trajectory next season: Get a lot better, contend for a tourney bid, probably end up in the NIT and feel great about the future when all’s said and done.
