Its sad that the Sandusky/Paterno/PSU child abuse scandal had to happen, but the PSU administration and fans learned the wrong lessons coming out of it. They didnt learn lessons that would make it less than likely for this type of abuse to ever happen again, but rather their fanbase/alumni installed individuals on the BoT who were dead set on not stopping these things from happening.....rather just not allowing abuses to ever see the light of day publicly. State College is a very secluded area of the country with no major media outlets which factors in to both the mentality, but also played a major role in how abuses were allowed to occur. Its not different than some of the criminal issues caused by the football programs during the Paterno-era that were breezed through with the exchange of OT-pay for working security at Beaver Stadium and Penn State tickets.....many charges that would always be prosecuted in a major population center.
The recent statements by multiple PSU players about other issues and they were getting no traction internally to get their issues attention. Like Paterno allegedly did in the 70s with child sex abuse victims, it sounds like the current players were just ignored or told to deal with it on their own. Sadly, that is the "Penn State Way".
