Many of you refuse this which is fine. Not much better than Pitt.....but better.

And it is clear that Pitt has put a turniquet on the bleeding and will get better from here. There is reason to be optimistic for sure.

But you Pitt mopes better brace yourself for a 6-6 season. They are still at least a year away from real progress in the win column.

And......IDK about you......but when they lined up for the game winner....my gang TO THE MAN.......predicted Pitt inventing yet another way to lose a game.....and they did not dissapoint.

Thats where this program is right now.

The better coaching staff won.

I think if you put it players vs. players it's a coinflip as to which team wins and that was reflected in the score and how Iowa won (FG as time expired).

But Pitt's staff was outcoached in the first half by Iowa's staff and so Iowa got that little bit of margin that resulted in Pitt needing at least two scores in a row in the second half to tie and then get the lead while Iowa only needed one score to get the lead back once it was tied. Pitt got that first score to tie twice but couldn't get the second to go in front.

Should have went for it on 4th down, but Iowa should be the better team. Their coach has been there for 17 years, Pitt is on it's 4th coach in 6 years (technically 5th coach counting Haywood). They have consistency in recruiting and philosophy, whereas Pitt's recruiting and play style has been consistently interrupted. The reason the game was close is because we have a better, more aggressive head coach.

Nope, the Players are having fun, discipline, did not make unfocused mistakes, and the game was away against a Team and coach known for Tough Football with another new Pitt Coach & Staff taking over from mostly Players from three other coaches?

Virginia Tech will pose another challenge but the Pitt Players responded and played very good for just their third game full of Freshmen, recruited just this year as well as losing the ACC Player of the Year?

I can enjoy the rest of the year and watch the Team, Coaches and Players become better and I saw just that the last 3 games, more than I did from the last 3 years and last 3 coaches before Coach Pat!

As I said in another thread, the team who had the ball last was destined to win that game.

In their final possession, Pitt showed that they could move the ball quite well - maybe too well, since they didn't use enough clock-time.

It took a ridiculously long FG to beat Pitt; if Pitt would've had the ball again, they had a great shot to win the game.

Good QB play versus (slightly) below average QB play is(was) simply too much of an advantage when the teams otherwise are equal. In this instance, trade QB's, and trade results.

Can you tell which QB below is Peterman and which is Beathard from their efficiency stats in the game?
QB 1: 67.5%, 6.4 yds/att, 7 different receivers, 67.5 QBR
QB 2: 69.0%, 7.6 yds/att, 7 different receivers, 57.2 QBR

Peterman thew for only 39 less yards on 11 less attempts. Peterman had as many TD's as interceptions (2-2) while Beathard had 0 TD and 1 interception. Even when you add in rushes & rushing yards, the plays-for-yards are still in Peterman's favor efficiency-wise: 34-for-212 (6.24) for Peterman and 48-for-297 (6.19) for Beathard. I don't think I can watch the game and look at the stats and say QB play was the difference.

QB1 = Beathard
QB2 = Peterman

The better team didn't win - we play them 10 games - we win more than they do.

57 yd. FG - give me a break.

I watched the whole game and I think Pitt is a sleeper in the ACC. You found the best QB in this game, your defense is physical and tackles well, you have great coaching and a kicker. Teams with a weak QB are going to lose to that defensive pressure. Thought they might break our QB. I hope you win the ACC and go 10-2, but I think you're at least 8-4. As a hawk fan, I think our team is better than the media thinks too. You're going to have a great season and I'll be pulling for you.

Pittpitt, Good point. However, the circumstances of the interceptions were a factor in my assessment. I just felt that the first interception was a very poor decision as the receiver was clearly bracketed and to add to it the ball was poorly thrown . Secondly, throwing interceptions when you are in the redzone early in the game is a recipe for losing.
Hopefully, as the offense matures as a unit, it will make it that much easier for Peterman to stay clear of each of the above situations.

I watched the same game, and I did not see Iowa's staff outcoaching Pitt's. Pitt was well-prepared and the defense showed it in the first half. The game was fairly even throughout, and very physical. I did think the Iowa staff made some adjustments at halftime that improved their ability to run and throw, but it was not due to poor coaching by Pitt. There are times of every game by every team that seem to indicate that the coaches made mistakes or poor judgements, and this game was no different. I am hopeful of the Narduzzi era, because he seems to 'get it'. I think Pitt's future is in good hands, because the staff is solid, and the recruiting seems to be promising.

However, the way CV is playing, Pitt gave away 2 possessions by inserting him into the game. CV is clearly not yet ready to run this new offense.

If Peterman gets two more possessions, maybe we score on one of them...

Go Pitt.

I'm as big of a Iowa homer as there is and I agree if these 2 teams played 10 times it would be pretty even (although with all of the hitting going on both teams would be bringing in high school seniors at about game 4).

Not sure I'd give the edge to Pitt in the 10 games but it would be close. Yes, a 57 yard FG wouldn't happen every game, but neither would a block punt for a TD.

I agree, with one exception, so long as no major injuries happen to Boyd!

Agree, great coach in Ferentz that knows how to win but is playing against Wisky, Nebraska, and at times Michigan, MSU, and Ohio State and that is tough to handle every year.

Pitt has to rebuild a Program that keeps a coach for 10 years that can win 10 Games a year a few time too. I like what I see, but we need to see that the rest of the year and next few years. I like what I see, but Pitt Fans need to see more not less?

Neither.......................

I will repeat.....55 yards rushing.......

No Connor....no running game......no outcome other than 6-6
