Man, this team just can't put anything completely together.

yesterday saw all of it. defense plays great for awhile and then completely whiffs on a drive when it matters. the offense does the opposite - can't do anything until it matters.

the team executes some things well. and then you get pee-wee league mistakes. bell does some things well on offense. and then he's maddeningly horrible at others. WR's get open and make some nice plays - then they drop gimmes. the DL can't get pressure against bad teams. then they punch clemson's OL in the mouth. the defense is disciplined and is making great tackles. then at other times, you're scrathing your head as to what in the hell they're doing. talent + the injury situation = this should have been a loss by 2 td's. but somehow, we almost won against a good team. against a bad team last week, we looked like a bottom feeder.

however, i put this loss on the OC. the defense did plenty to win this game. giving up 3 yards of rushing outside of the last play is fantastic. holding your opponent to one TD in the 2nd half should get you a win.

bell's issues:
* you have to be able to get a play off w/out a penalty. ESPECIALLY after a TO or stoppage in play. good lord. pee-week league level, here.
* procedure penalties - come on, fellas. we had 3 guys who could have been called on one play. by some miracle, the refs didn't call anything. again, pee-wee league level execution.
* pass protection - the OL has it's struggles but come on, coach. leave someone in to block. have your TE chip someone. i, and others, posted 10 different ways to help your OL during the week so i'm not going to rehash it. but this is offensive coaching 101. he did almost none of it.
* first and goal from your 1.5 yard line has to be a TD. it just has to. there are no excuses for this.
* power runs - he's calling WAY too many plays as if he has the 1993 dallas cowboys offensive line.
* WR route trees - he calls WAY too many plays where the WR's needed 4+ seconds to get open downfield. peyton mannings's first OC in indianapolis after his rookie year: "1, 2, 3 - get rid of it." or it's a sack/int. that's it, coach - if your QB has 3 seconds or less, every route needs to stop at 3 seconds unless it's a decoy where you're trying to a defender from a zone/whatever.

i'm not exrtraplolating this any further than this season. but he simply has to better.

college football standings are a total mess this year. any decent two loss team is getting into the playoffs. it was right in front of us this year but the inconsistency is just killing this teams' chances.
two more games, pat. let's get this thing figured out and finish the season on a high note.
