After getting torched in the 1st half, the D stood up and gave us a chance to win. You hold UNC to 26 points, you should win the game. They're going to score points. This NFL-style conservative 3 yard, 5 yard, 2 yard, 6 yard offense isn't good enough. You cant have 18 play drives all the time and expect to punch it in. That's too may plays. Where are the big plays out of Tyler Boyd? Do we have a slot WR that can catch a ball over the middle and go for 40?

One word to describe this offense is unimaginative. Its boring. There's nothing to it. We all thought this would be one of the best OL's in recent history and they've really struggled. There's been no improvement on the whole unit.

I love Narduzzi. I'm more than satisfied with 6-2 but if we cant score 30 points on a semi-consistent basis, we could be looking at 6-6. We've only hit 30 against 1-A competition 1 time.

The offense is boring because we lack playmakers who are big play threats. Our WR's have no deep threat....and yes, I'll include Boyd in that statement. Boyd is an incredible route runner with exceptional hands, but he's really not a home run hitter. The remainder of the receiving corp is average at best. Our running game is solid, but it's a grind it out type of running game. There is no game breaker in the backfield. No one who is really a threat to score everytime he touches the ball. Besides the one late pass to Ford, our longest play was a QB scramble by a guy who really isn't a great runner. Nuff said. Without Conner and without someone else lined up to compliment Boyd, this is a grind it out offense that will struggle to score more then 24 points a game.

In 2013, Boyd had 85 receptions for 1174 yds, 7 TDs, and averaged 13.8 yds/reception.

In 2014, Boyd had 78 receptions for 1261 yds, 8 TDs, and averaged an astounding 16.2 yds/reception.

This year, while he's getting more catches, his average yds/reception is waaay down.

So instead of saying that he's "really not a home run hitter", wouldn't it be more accurate to say that maybe his current QB isn't getting the deep ball to him, or that the new OC's play-calling might be keeping him from being the homer run hitter that he once was?

Okay so is it time for Voytik to make a return??

Or would it be fair to say opponents no longer respect our running game without Conner and the play action pass isnt nearly effective?

I thought both units were mediocre tonight. I was most disappointed with our tackling. UNC is just a better team. Pitt still showed a lot of fight tonight.

Well, I'll agree with the thought that the current play calling is not getting him the ball down the field. Way too many bubble screens and short crap that really has no shot at a long play. That said, I'll stand by my statement that Boyd is not the stereotypical "homerun hitter". Boyd's yards per catch has been excellent, but much of his yardage is yards after contact. He's very elusive but not really a burner. How many times have you seen Boyd simply run past someone for a score? Not really that often. This in no way diminishes his skills or contribution, but he's simply not a guy who will take it to the house on any given play. Couple this with the pedestrian play calling and it explains why our offense isn't exactly lighting it up. Just my opinion.

Point well taken, but not entirely true.

In 2013, Pitt's rushing yards averaged just 114yds/game. James Conner's share was 66.58 yds/game - all pedestrian numbers - yet Tyler Boyd still produced great receiving numbers (even more special for a freshman). Again, Boyd's freshman numbers were 85 catches for 1,174 yds (13.8 yds/reception), and 7 TD's.
