The past three days have been mind numbing for many sports fans in Pittsburgh. The Pitt football team starts it off by passing for 8 yards in the ACC Championship game. I know it was Clemson but it wasn't much better against Miami who was 6-5 coming into the game. I am not sure you need a quarterback to pass for 8 yards. Simply run a wildcat and let one of the running backs chuck it for a few yards. Anyone know how long it has been since Pitt passed for only 8 yards?
The Steelers had not lost their first home game ever when leading by two touchdowns. The Steelers blow a 16 point lead by missing an extra point. The Chargers score two touchdowns when the referees miss obvious penalties. The Charges get a third touchdown when a Hayden interception ricochets to a Charger when he is beat by a teammate. History was made.
Last night at the Pete the Panthers get beaten by Niagara. The Purple Eagles has lost the last two games to St Francis. Which St Francis? Both the one in New York and the one in Loretta, PA. On top of that the Niagara is playing without their leading scorer.
Early last night I said to my wife Coach Capel is confident he will win this game with his bizarre substitution patterns. He empties the bench about three minutes into the game and plays his second team. He later expanded his rotation by using Peace Ilegomah.
When the Panthers left the floor at halftime trailing 34-33 you would think someone would have said we better start playing defense. By the time Pitt turned the heat up it was too late.
Maybe a historian will tell us if this was the worst loss by a Pitt basketball team in the history of the Pete. I know we lost to Montana last year but they won the Big Sky Conference and played in the NCAA Tournament.
We may have to wait awhile to see if Niagara wins the Metro Atlantic Conference. It is a one bid league so they will not be in the NCAA tourney unless they win it.
This young Panther team can not take anyone for granted. Last night the coaches and players di and paid for it.
