was Toney open at least even with Murphy, as Murphy got the ball?

At the time, I was yelling at home to head man it.

There was also a defensive lapse that gave Louisville a made three. Murphy appeared to talk to Johnson? About a miscommunication.

It looked to be Murphy's mistake to me.

Yeah he needs to give that up early to Toney who’s way more athletic. Worse case scenario he can give it back to Murphy at the last second if the defender commits to Toney.

Really frustrating play by Murphy there. Absolutely should have passed it off - Murphy converting that layup with a longer, more athletic defender committed to him would have been a miracle. Toney had a way better chance of converting. He did the same thing at another point in the game, too.

I think it might be because of an additional comfort level now that he has a few ACC games under his belt, but Murphy really hasn't been playing within himself lately. Kudos to the kid for having the confidence to try and take it to the hole, but man, he should really be a guy who drifts outside of the three point line looking for open looks almost exclusively.

Yet he has ZERO confidence to take any wide open threes inside the final 3 minutes of games...however, dude often thinks he's Steph Curry several times a game with these ridiculous drive attempts. He's become a confounding player, to say the least. I know that he gives full effort and I appreciate that.

He was wide open once and called for the ball in the second half. Much like a previous game he didn't get it.

He did take a very difficult three later after getting the ball with 7 seconds on shot clock, but that was a shot he was forced to take.

Yeah ... I don't think Toney got out ahead of him, but I was SO hoping he would find a way to get him the ball because it really looked like he was committed to try to take it himself and while he might have been able to beat the guy who was on him, Louisville just has too many good athletes and just knew he would get it rejected by a helper - Toney would not have been a SURE bet, but particulary on a dish close to the basket would have had a LOT better shot at it.

He had Trey open on his left as well with a pretty clear path to the basket.

It's like he's dyslexic in his confidence level in what he can and cannot do. But he is a better all-around player than I expected, while not as good a shooter as I hoped for.

I agree on that a skillset combo of better shooting/worse all-around playing would have been more helpful I think. This team needs a knockdown shooter with all the attention that Trey and Johnson get.

Made his first two. Didn't see any real effort to get him the ball immediately after that.

Murphy did screw that break up. I guess he figured he would join the crowd. Executing a fast break seems to be a lost art among players today. The key is to get the ball to the player with the best chance to score, whether it is yourself or a teammate.
