But I wish him only the best moving forward, either in a transfer or going overseas. The few times I met him, he was very affable and polite. I hope he uses the education he got here wisely and stays out of trouble. God speed Durand.
Well, I thought I was pretty clear why this made me sad when I heard the news - he seems like a really nice kid who made some poor decisions but most importantly, he was a Panther. I'm very partial to those who pick my University. No need to dissect it more than that. And how did he hang the staff out to dry? Isn't it a fact that he hurt himself more by staying this year? My logical, simple guess is he had every intention of returning but slippd up again. Like I said, poor decisions. I think we should let it go and move on.Originally posted by UP#1:
We hardly knew the kid.
Suspended twice hurt the team big time this year by being suspended hung Dixon and coaching staff out to dry with his indisgressions and suspensions. Not sure what actions Mr. Johnson did to cause sadness Pitt Girl.
Not to be critical.
Now with that being said is the extra scholaship not Mavrick Rowann's? Now this is a good player and kid that can help this Pitt Hoops program out alot!
Close the door Coach

Not saying he would have stayed on the straight and narrow, but that knee injury seemed to halt any momentum Johnson was gaining as a player. No knee injury, maybe no suspension, etc.
We'll never know.
Hmmmmm......no, I meant the word sad.Originally posted by wbrpanther:
Sad is a word that is used way too often on this board. There is a lot that is truly sad in this world but what happens with Pitt players or coaches aren't among them.
What reason do we have to support a kid who failed multiple drug tests and was subsequently kicked off or left the team?Originally posted by Perrypanther:
So many on these boards are willing to turn on their own.
Totally cool with your opinion. Just not sure why mine is being so criticized. I feel badly for him and I wish him all the best. A new start may be just what he needs. And the "nice" kids don't continually screw up statment? I know a lot of adults who are VERY nice and manage to screw up a lot. Being nice and screwing up are NOT mutually exclusive, even remotely.Originally posted by UP#1:
Well he hung out thje coaching staff by not playing in games and coaches had to burn a red shirt of Cam Johnson when they would not of had too if Durand would of had his Chit together.
I'm all for giving seciond chances but not 3rd and 4th chances which Durand seemd to get and now now a last chance so bye bye not sadness is what i feel for him Cam Johnson should be pissed because his red shirt was burned even though he was injured.
Nice kids don't continually screw up
You make you won breaks and success in life Durand made his bed
Really? He didn't stay in school? I understand he was suspended as a student athlete but didn't realize he was kicked out academically.Originally posted by HailToPitt1985:
It seems that DJ hung himself after given chance after chance after chance to get it right. It's his responsibility to stay in school, stay eligible and fulfill the requirements of his scholarship. He couldn't do it and that's totally on him. He's a big boy and he needs to move on. But being sad about it?? Like someone else said, there are far more important things in this life that could potentially make me sad. Some irresponsible, immature actions of some kid on a basketball team aren't included in the things that could make me sad. I just don't have the time or energy to be bothered with that.
I don't know one way or another if he stayed in school by his own choice or because of academics. I was making reference to the fact that these kids have certain requirements in order to fulfill the obligations of their scholarship. Academic, moral, athletic. I doubt he was fulfilling the academic part as others have said he never attended class and there were other suspicions. Morally, he took a banned substance in violation of team and NCAA rules. Athletically, he wasn't playing and may never have played again, depending on circumstances. He made those choices, now he has to live with that.Originally posted by pitt-girl:

Again, that's fine. But it seems my OP really touched a nerve. Tough crowd here. I wish Durand the best and hope he gets his life straightened out.Originally posted by passedout:
I think your opinion is being criticized simply because others have an opinion as well and, well, they just feel that actions speak louder than words, pittgirl.
