Recruiting Article The recruiting question: Why doesn't Pitt have any commits?

Didn’t the 13-9 win get us some big recruits like Saddler and Hayle?

This feels different to me.

Ive always been a big Narduzzi supporter but him and his staff aren’t resonating with recruits.

Not urban African American not Suburban white kids.

Not legacy recruits, not Ohio Recruits, not eastern pa recruits etc.

The 5-7 record in year 3 isn’t helping, it doesn’t matter who you beat.

I honestly think the staff’s strategy is to wait for big schools to evaluate and target and then move in on prospects being overlooked. I guess it explains the slow start 3 years in a row. We may have conceded that we don’t have the resources to compete and it makes more sense to wait and then make moves.

Three years?
The same thing happened during Paul Chryst’s tenure also

As for the aftermath of 13-9, i do remember Sadler and Hale had a lot of Wvu interest. Seems to be that Pitt flipped a couple of those types of players. Of course Rich Rod bolting probably didnt hurt either

Wilson ain’t happening. It’s a three way battle between Bama, Clemson, and PSU. I also don’t think it will help our cause when his best friend commits to the Peds on Monday as many expect.

You heard it here first. He's not going to Penn State. He's also not going to Bama or Clemson. More likely, PItt or Iowa.

Rudolph's going to commit to PSU early this week, but they aren't a package deal anymore.

Why would anybody expect any of that to translate to recruiting? The "Hey, our defense might not be so bad next year" isn't exactly the kind of sales pitch that has kids rushing to their Twitter to announce their commitment.

I’ll take your word for it.

But I also heard from here that Brisker wanted to be the hometown hero hours before he committed elsewhere. o_O

Yeah, but I'm the so-called local Nitter, remember? At any rate, I definitely am not wearing anybody's rose-colored glasses.

Something is up with Wilson. Let's see how it plays out, but I hear that his prediction list is going to change.

I’ve been called the same.

It’s usually the crowd that say “stars don’t matter” and “let me worry about recruiting on NSD.”

I realize that Pitt usually has a June haul of comittments but the recruiting landscape has changed. We have over 200 offers on the table according to most and close to 80 prospects have committed to ACC schools. We cant keep spotting our peers and start out behind like we are this year. I know the first loi isn't until December but the majority of verbals keep their pledge unless their is a coaching change. Its one thing to lose a recruit to a Notre Dame or other top 10 teams but not to mediocre programs-at best- like Purdue , BC and Kentucky type schools. We need a verbal soon - I don't care if a low rated three star- we need other prospects to look at a recruiting sight and see that we have athletes that have committed also. One leads to two and so on. This staff puts a lot of time in it appears but its tough to sell 5-7 seasons or seasons where we have a big win but embarrassing losses like last year on national tv to Okie State and North Carolina or to be home when 80 other teams are playing in a bowl somewhere and winning bowl games as well. For once can we put together a season where we actually overachieve no matter who we play for the season . We need 8 wins this season and a bowl win against a power five team. A nine win season might actually spike attendance somewhat and lead to a good finish in recruiting but we cant have a September like we did last year no matter who we have to line up against. I still have confidence in Narduzzi and I think he made some good staff additions as far as coaching goes. Lets hope it translates on the field and eventually with recruiting.

Actually, you just lifted info from another site and put your name on it.

If you look hard enough, it's actually on maybe 3 other sites. Every bit of information is somewhere else. You think recruiting happens in some kind of vacuum?

It shows a lack on integrity to claim to be the first, when you know that it's already been posted on, as you put it, "maybe 3 other sites."

But you posted it here first.

Well done. I wouldn't expect anything less from you.

It was a small sign when we had an explosive offense and wins over Clemson and Penn State to tout and we couldn’t get anyone with pedigree on offense beside some RB’s. We are getting worse recruiting not better.

Side note what does Kevin Sherman offer?

Our offensive line coach didn’t have in roads with one high school player?

I do think Collins will land someone.

Toss up between Narduzzi and Holgersen who is the worst recruiter.Holgersens been down here twice as long as Narduzzi and he can only land JCs and Transfers.Narduzzi is treading water but starting to sink.Neither have any charisma and kids don't relate to either,so they pick up leftovers.Oh well so it is in the life of a Mountaineer fan.

Wilson is probably not a take at PSU until they see what Cine and Kelly are doing, who are both higher on the board. Already secondary commits from Ellis, presumably Rudolph on Monday, and Brisker. Unlikely they can take more than 5 DBs in what will likely be a smaller class.

It is amazing some of you try to rationalize this as if it’s Pitt’s plan to get passed over and wait for recruits in June and December. What happens is this....Pitt is near the bottom of the totum pole. Teams take our first, second, and third offers. We start to make hay when kids realize Pitt is their best remaining option. These kids may have good offer lists but we never land the kids from these schools, otherwise you’d see pitt win recruiting battles early

You just reiterated what like 3 other people already said?

Yeah, like I said: that game produced some instant results (and the current staff had some success in the aftermath of the Miami game). But the following class didn’t see much of that momentum. Wannstedt didn’t get a commit in the next class until June 5.

No one remembers beating Miami so much that it's a difference maker. That game salvaged a bad season with perhaps the worst QB play at Pitt over the last 35 years...and that is saying something...
That win was still critical for Pitt and Narduzzi because it held the line. We should have beaten Tech..
The best thing about that game is what it did for the players already on the team.
It gave them validation, a win over a top 5 team and most importantly, a quality QB.

The one thing that Franklin did at Penn State was bring in Moorhead from Fordham to run an up tempo, entertaining offense. He may not have had the talent of a Michigan or OSU at the time, but he knew that scoring lots of points would get fans and recruits excited about the product and could mask issues in other areas. I bring this up because it might be time for Pat to take a risk and bring someone in outside of his comfort zone. I'm not saying it has to be offense, because I know defense is his strength. Recruit athletic defensive players like a fiend and build an identity around being nearly impossible to score against. Or install a crazy up-tempo offense that puts up 40 points per game. Either way, you will build a brand that travels outside of Western PA.

Great at sacrificing kids to the football God's. True day!
You are on a roll..... And to the Pitt mods, I am not here to flame. I actually like discussing football on other sites FWIW. I can deflect venom directed at PSU and hope Pitt posters who like visitors can see that.

I won’t.... Nobody here had anything to do with that. Yet, we continue to overcome a true tragedy and persevere. Best of luck this season!

The tragedy that you refer to is exposure of the decades long concealment of the disgusting crimes committed by your sacred idols.

I'm not surprised that you have conveniently forgotten that several of your present HC's players at Vanderbilt have been convicted and sentenced to lengthy prison terms for rape. And that Franklin appeared in the victim's hospital room four days later and asked her to recruit "15 pretty girls to help in recruiting" This degenerate slimeball, much admired by you and your fan base, is a true representative of Penn State. You "persevere" in being the vilest, most repulsive, collegiate assembly in America. It is in your DNA.

That's a pretty big one. Your legendary coach and top level admin allowed a coach to rape kids. Is that nothing to you?

Wait. Don't answer.

Here we go. I swear, every time PSU does something successful, a small portion of our fan base comes right back to this nonsense. 99% of the time it's not relevant at all, but here we are. What does Franklin landing a recruit have to do with Paterno?! I swear, some of you make our whole fan base look petty and stupid.

OK. Its time to stop the kids rape, Paterno thing. The only people who now care are PITT fans who see Franklin cleaning our clocks in recruiting. Parents and athletes DO NOT CARE. We have to stop making excuses. Some staffs are good recruiters and some are not, we have the staff that are not. I'm not saying they are not good coaches, they just cant recruit and that will catch up after awhile.

2 years ago half this board was saying they were glad Franklin was at ped U, now nobody says it because he has proven he can get the best coaches and is a top 5 recruiter in the country. Yet we have posters going back to the child rape thing. let me say it again parents and athletes DO NOT CARE.

Stop it, just stop it! Your masquerade as a Pitt fan is pathetic.

Back in the day when another team was successful against PSU on the field, you guys got all sanctimonious and told the other fan base how it was ok because PSU was still better than them, because St Joe was running a "grand experiment" and how you guys at least never cheated to get players. But most importantly, they were "jealous" because you guys at least had success with honor (Even though, players were getting arrested every month).. Yada, yada, yada...

So whenever you puffy chested enablers want to talk about success, we'll be here to remind you of what a bunch of hypocrites you are...

Apparently NOBODY CARED when all the sin and debauchery was going on in Happy Valley either...

Typical. If you aren't obsessed with PSU, and you don't keep bringing up the scandal, regardless of its relevance to the topic, you must be a nitter. Got it. Thanks.

"This site has about 20 people that post... And 75 % of them are Penn State fans.
You and the 5 other idiots should be talking about why there's only like 30 people that show up on game day to cheer for pitt.. Not worrying about who the "undercover nitter" is"

Typical nitter response... full of idiocy....

1, You bring up the typical old standby of every nitter… attendance.... LOL!
2. I don't work for the Pitt athletic department and it's not my job to increase attendance, you idiot...
3. 20 people post and 75% are nitters? You're either full of sh*t or you must be a math major at PSU...

JoePa knew and you probably did too...
