What a waste. Too bad the powers that be don’t have their priorities in the right order.

Someone needs to ask FC Cincinnati how they built a majestic stadium in a neighborhood.

How is a stadium in Hazelwood any better than Heinz Field?

It isn't on campus.

What is wrong with a flat three story medical research facility structure topped with a playing surface surrounded by 47,000 seats? talk about cool and unique. Student section could wave to the lab rats at the end of the 3rd quarter..

Doesn't need to be on campus. Just need a stadium where 40K-45K people is sold-out and raucous.

Yeah, the location of our stadium is fine. Getting in and out of Oakland is an absolute bitch, and an on-campus stadium isn't going to attract more people (it will probably deter them if anything). The problem is that we have a table big enough to host the Last Supper, and only Jesus, Peter, and (Gavin) Bartholomew are showing up consistently to dine. I still think we should at least TRY the tarps, but whatever. Seems more cost-effective than dropping a half billion for seven home games per year.

... Which just leads us down another rabbit hole, because I realize it could be multi-purposeful if it's built on campus.

I've said extending the T to Oakland would be a godsend; make the North Shore feel more connected to campus. Although student attendance really hasn't been the problem this year.

I don't think student attendance has been an issue since Heather moved the entire section in the lower bowl. They have been the one strong point for the past few years.

well in a parrallel universe (one in which i knew how to spell it correctly) i think that site would be amazing for a pitt football stadium. On the water, some bars and restaurants (and docks) right across the river, some water taxi services, open end facing the water, would be cool as heck..

but in this universe, where logic, zoning laws, and private ownership rule the land, well we arent getting a stadium there. The city and the ownership group have plans for this, even if it is gonna take close to 20 years for those plans to come out..

but again, in magic land, if i had divine powers, that would be my choice for a pitt football stadium, with tailgating on my sweet ass boat (that i'd also have in this universe)..

Students are not the issue they’ve been very supportive. The problem in attendance is the cheap so-called pitt alumni and fans who are really not big fans who can’t go out and support the team. they have more excuses.

yep, many alumni prefer to stay home for some reason, and home isn't even out of state.

That's correct. The students are going to show up no matter where it's at. The casuals are going to make even more excuses not to come if they have to travel to Oakland and subject themselves to collegiate amenities.

i know i sound like an old man saying this but it's soooo much better watching a pitt / steeler game at home than going to game. i mean, it really is. not even a price thing, just so much more enjoyable, you see a ton more of the game and heinz lots are a pain. some kind of nonsense bottle neck thing going outside of the stadium with cement barriers and fences. i guess it's a security measure but doesnt make much sense..

and before you blast me too much, i am going on saturday, taking a bunch of kids so i'll be there to cheer KP on and i may even break my own golden rule of tailgating thru the first quarter and be in my seats by kickoff. I mean i'll try, I still have to get thru the yellow windbreaker mafia outside of Gate A giving me a full body cavity search

And that would technically be on campus...well literally on top of campus.

BTW, $100 million gift for the uni is big news. One of the biggest in its history.

Our mascot could be a human sized Lab rat with aborted baby scalp stitched on the back. All this to honor the "revolutionary" studies done by our illustrious institution..

Subway to Oakland , connecting it to Downtown and the North Shore is a must and should have already been started.
In the meantime , just pull these back out, eh.

What would we call Hazelwood? Victory Lows?

Roc already looks more like a large mouse than a panther.

The old mascot (circa late 70's and early 80's) was better... looked like a Panther.

Much like the PSU logo is a profile of a chipmunk, our Roc resembles anything BUT a Panther. More like a mongoose with a mouthful of cobra eggs. That outfit is almost Sanduskianly creepy.

Without significant upgrades to the transportation infrastructure to and from Hazelwood, a stadium there would be a nightmare.

The idea of building an entirely new football stadium for $800 million or whatever it would be considering the recent leap in construction materials, prevailing wages, etc., to be used maybe 6 times per year is nuts. Even more so considering it'd literally be too small for WVU, PSU, or Notre Dame games.

Cost goes up.wvery year. Now it's too expensive. Job well done SP and MN!

we'd all be forced to drink in the south side and take a ferry/water taxi across the river. it'd be sweet. i mean, after the game, it would take us 4 hours to get to our cars but pre-game would be nice..

We could play on the top of a Quick Stop like Dante and Randal did. Just a thought.

Maybe Gainey can get a billion+ from the infrastructure piggy bank. Because that would be the cost. So, 10,000 kids use that route 7 times a year?? Sounds reasonable.
If they extend the T, it'll be North. Just tunnel under 279, or over it.

I don't know about a stadium, though a stadium and arena across from SSW seems like a great idea. But that land should have been earmarked for Pitt from day one. It's a logical expansion location and yet there was never a chance that the city was going to allow it. Imagine a river campus with a few schools, residence halls, etc... with great riverfront parklands connected to Oakland by trams. Would have been great for Hazelwood as well. Instead they are going to use prime real estate for more windowless labs (like most of the other stuff along 2nd). Makes about as much sense as using the space for testing driverless cars.

I love Pitt but hate Pittsburgh for the lack of care they seem to give to our university. Our administration doesn't seem to have much of a bigger picture either. But they could put this kind of stuff anywhere.
