Are they going to be that hard to replace I don't think soWhoever the coach is next year will have to replace the entire backcourt.
Sibande, Burton, Elliott, Cummings ... all seniors.
Won't have a hard time selling PT, I guess.

Here are some things I think:
The Portal is here to stay. There will be new players transferring every year; from all classes: FR thru grad transfers.
Capel believes he needs experience and depth in the backcourt for next season as the pressure mounts for Pitt to WIN MORE NOW.
A FR comes in with a free pass to transfer and play elsewhere immediately. So there is risk both in terms of lack of experience and fear of transfer with HS guys. Pitt will of course look to recruit some HS guys moving forward. But Capel needs to prove he can win enough to keep his job to get the more talented HS players to consider coming to Pitt. In the shorter term he’ll try to make use of the Portal to get things rolling. (WillI it work? IDK 🤷♂️ But he has to try).
Rosters throughout CBB are going to be more of a year-to- year thing. This is going to be a fact of life for everyone. Try to put the best roster together to win for the next upcoming season. Then reassess and adjust the roster for the future at the end of the season as needed. The previous method of recruiting HS players only and developing them over 4 or 5 years is pretty much a thing of the past. The Portal and NIL have created a new normal.
Wouldn't matter if they were all freshmen. Every new coach will have to replace an entire roster everywhere. I 100% expect that the new coach will have to fill 10-13 scholarships. And there will be 1500 transfers to choose from. College hoops is glofiried AAU now. I'm surprised they make them wait until the year is over to switch teams. Should be like AAU when you can switcb teams every week.Whoever the coach is next year will have to replace the entire backcourt.

I.E. - The NCAA has become a glorified rec league.
Yep. There will be “pick-up” players available every year. The HC’s who can thrive on keeping most of the players they want to keep; discarding the ones they don’t; then adding the right pieces through the Portal and meshing them into competitive, winning teams, will thrive.I.E. - The NCAA has become a glorified rec league.
And as the past month has shown… if there is a particular player on another team that a savvy coach thinks would be a great fit, but that guy hasn’t entered the portal, it’s perfectly fine for the coach to go through “channels” to bribe the kid into doing so.Yep. Those that can’t will fail. But very few, if any, programs will be able to win consistently using just the old methods of recruiting HS players and developing them over time. It’s all about re-tooling every year now.
Need a player? Go get an experienced and proven guy from the Portal for a year or 2 now. Not some unproven HS player who might not perform as expected. Or if he does, may tell you he’s going into the Portal just because he can.
If Capel and the coaching staff know what they need and when they need it why didn’t they know it last year or the year before? What makes you think next year will be so different?First of all capel is not going anywhere, Pitt will have a decent 2022-23 season, and I’m sure the coaching staff is all over that, they know what they need and when they need it, or do you think they rely on you guys for info and strategy
Agree. But top teams are loaded with backups that can be ecouraged to move on. We're at a disadvantage right now. We need some youngsters to stay and grow. Perhaps the twins?? So another weak performance lowers our future. Here are some things I think:

The old way of doing business has changed . Schools like Pitt that recruit developmental players will never hold on to them especially in bb . These kids want to play now , not in two yrs , and with the ease of transferring there’s nothing that’s going to stop this trend . If you recruit freshman they better be able to play some their freshman yr and be a vital player in their second . To boot if they’re not being used in the way they want they’ll leave regardless of the minutes they’re seeing .Agree. But top teams are loaded with backups that can be ecouraged to move on. Gee, I thought everything was status quo !!!!The old way of doing business has changed . Schools like Pitt that recruit developmental players will never hold on to them especially in bb . The other issue today is the kids that far exceed their expectations and become valuable additions to better programs ,they will leave and with NIL money the programs with bigger booster groups will outbid lessor programs for these guys .
( Ask Pitt Fb ! )
Coaches matter , but the big winners will be the good coaches with bigger aggressive booster groups . They’ll outbid you for the elite freshman and the portal players . Money talks……and it’s now legal .
