Has me really missing Mayday, Rece Davis and even Sweet Lou BIG TIME.

This new crew of gibrones is about as vanilla and anti-charismatic as it gets. No sense of humor, out of sync with each other and shaky analysis.

Of course, generic and prepackaged is the future, people with personality like Myron Cope or Bob Prince or Mike Lange, Howard Cosell for example are history, the future will have no legends in the broadcast booth, like we remember, because they won't hire people "like them" anymore.

If you read a lot about ESPN, especially in the "Those Guys Have All the Fun" book (which is fascinating by the way), it's very apparent that ESPN does NOT want their folks to become stars or to become the reason someone might tune in to a show (outside of maybe PTI). They absolutely hated when Berman, and then Patrick/Olbermann became must see TV.

They don't want people getting too big, because then they become expensive and tough to deal with. Case in point, Keith Olbermann comes back and was promised he would anchor some Sports Centers, but was relegated to an ESPN2 show (which was actually pretty good) and never anchored a single Sports Center. Now he's gone again, this time without causing his own dismissal. They have arguably the greatest SC talent of all time in house and they don't use him because they are afraid of him become too big again. I can't think of another network that operates like this.

So instead of an entertaining show with May and the often incoherent Lou Holtz (which was often funny), you get a show with all of the excitement of watching CSPAN.

I used to always catch the football final show Sunday mornings Holtz, May and Davis. Now it is so boring I can't stand to watch it. What a shame to ruin a good mix of highlights and entertainment.
