and I love it. The schedule doesn't seem as challenging as the last few seasons. I think this team can sneak up on some people

This defense is looking really good. The defense is rolling with a full clip. These guys are big, fast and strong and some of them play with a real mean streak.

Special teams looks solid. Christodolou might be the most improved player over the course of one season i can remember. By the end of the year he was kicking the crap out of the ball. Kessman is a stud. Ffrench is always a threat to go the distance.

The offense needs to pull its weight. That's what this year will come down to.

How do you know what anything "looks like" in a media blackout that is more tight than the Allies preparation for D Day?

Looks good on paper and from how some of these guys finished last year. The defense doesn't have as many holes as normal in spring ball (outside of LB, maybe).

DL is well stocked if they can find a reserve DE or two. I think Morgan is going to have a nice career here. He was pretty advanced as a freshman last fall. I look for Alexandre to be the 4th guy.

DB, especially CB is well stocked. Jackson and Hamlin should be highly motivated as seniors. Pinnock is a stud. I was slightly surprised Jackson didn't declare for the draft.

Brightwell is going to be decent. I'm not sold on Reynolds as an athlete but if they are able to identify two more LBs out of Bright, Pine, Reynolds, Wendell Davis (who the staff likes very much), Campbell, Nunn, etc they will be in good shape. I think there's a chance it might be Brightwell, Davis, and Bright which is a fairly athletic group.

This season will ride with the offensive line. These young guys have to step up. they will be the difference between repeat of the Coastal and another 5-7 year.. Just my opinion

Yes they desperately need to find two tackles. Otherwise it might be a long season. I think Houy or Van Lynn will be one. The grad transfer might be the other. Not too concerned with the interior assuming Morrissey is fully recovered. Hargrove was ready to play last year and should slide right in.

Any word on Drake's development?

Agree Jackson returning a pleasant surprise.

The OP sounds like pirates fans in the late 90's.

Hope Springs eternal in March, only to be out of the race by Memorial Day.

We know nothing about this team. The defense could be solid and the offense suck. Whipple can make Pickett a solid ACC qb and the OL could suck.

Davis / Sibley could produce and our corners regress.

We.Just.dont.know.

The running game always seems to produce. This season is all about Pickett and Whipple finding some consistency.

I think defense should be marginally better.

What are you basing this on?

My eyes in warmups, him being one of the few freshmen to get playing time, and reports from the staff. I could be wrong but it looked like he had good size and decent technique and leverage for a true freshman. There were also like 5 guys solidly ahead of him on the depth chart and the staff still made it a point to get his feet wet. My bet is he's in the two deep come fall over guys like Palmer (who's now up to 255 apparently) and Baldonado, . Time will tell, though.

... so.what.specifically.are.you.disagreeing.with?

being cautiously optimistic about a team that significantly underachieved but still won their division and returns the bulk of their two deep?

and dane jackson and pinnock aren't regressing dawg. if they do mathis and marquis williams will be waiting... not to mention Coleman. if there's one spot that seems to be deep and talented it's corner.

a great question, as I dont see how or where you find disagreement in my post.

You simply are like a Pirates fan from the 90's. hopeful, optimistic, excited,

only to find that everyone else is as good or better and the season is over by June. There is nothing to suggest that Pitt breaks out this year.

Nothing.

so please, knock off the ballwashing until Pitt proves something.

No doubt the staff talked about him the most of the RS frosh DE’s. They talked about his work ethic and potential. And like u said he got a few snaps when none of the others dressed.

Agree lots of talent and depth at corner. Jackson will play Sundays. And I believe if Pinnock & Mathis keep developing they can play Sunday’s as well. Pinnock has real good size for a corner, he is physical and can run. Mathis per our DC is the best athlete on the team. Williams played 4 games last year so the staff is high on him. PN said he see’s a lot of the same qualities that Maddox had, said he is a tough little pit bull haha.

I believe Coleman is back to S backing up Hamlin but that could just be for camp...idk. But when he has played he has made plays. He’s another big DB who can run. Bates and PN said they have 3 starters at corner. Jackson will start, then Pinnock & Mathis will both play a lot as they will compete every practice to earn a starting spot.

Dam unfortunate that there is zero buzz for our teams (football or hoops). Steelers a national laughingstock, Penguins deserving to miss the post- season, and of course the Pirates looking at customary 90 losses... this is a tremendous time for one or both Pitt teams to come to the region's winning-sports-hungry rescue. But we're looking at .500 at best for football and basketball (and even that would be a stretch for each one). Too bad.

So you disagree with the entire post? Or that there is a possibility that the team has a good season? Are you confused again, dawg?

And don't be such a homophobe. I'll wash whatever balls I want bigot. It is [the current year] after all.

For the record, the Pirates last dropped 90 games 9 seasons ago.

Nah,

Not confused at all.

This team more likely will be 7-5 and middle of the coastal pack than breakout as you seem to predict.

But you keep fluffing these guys, bro. And remind us in december when they have done to separate from the rest of the divsion.

Or I can save you the trouble.

Resisting the buy in. Fall for it every damn year. Call me a dem cause im resisting!

It'll be interesting opening the year with a pretty formidable division rival for a change, as opposed to not looking impressive against a cupcake and everyone on here freaking out or preaching how Narduzzi "doesn't want to show his hand" for Penn St.

Many years at least we had one or two guys making it interesting to buy in. A Fitz or a Baldwin or a Graham (Ray!) Or a Donald or a Boyd or a Whitehead or Conner. Our highest profile player now, I guess, is Ffrench?
