Pitt up 48-40 and on a 11-0 run.... sparked by Ryan Luther after he came in for Young.

Louisville calls timeout.

Jamie takes out Luther and puts Young back in.

Louisville ends the game on a 27-12 run. That run started with Jamie's ridiculous decision to pull Luther... just as Luther had brought the crowd to life and got Pitt control of the game.

Young had played like crap all game long. IMMEDIATELY after he entered the game, Louisville scored 8 quick points and tied the game.

I like Jamie... but he blew it tonight. The loss is on him.

And respectable reporters... Like Peak and Zeise... *HAVE* to ask him about it after the game. You know that Groat and Hillgrove won't.

Really dumb post.

JDs subsitution's have always been head scratchers. Even when he had very good teams hes tended to take guys out when they are on a roll rather than letting them stay in the game until they cool off. Having said that VILLE is clearly the more talented team. PItt overall played well other than the late game offensive woes. If they can continue to play this well they'll make the NCAAs Villle is a very good team, no shame in losing to them

Pitt seriously has to consider I think looking into making a coaching change over the next 2 years or so. It's just the same crap with Dixon year in and year out and game in and game out. Dixon I don't think should be fired but his expiration date here is certainly getting closer then it was a few years ago.

UP 89, I like a lot of your posts but you are wrong here. Luther starter to look winded and needed a blow, and Yound played well down the stretch (after taking horrible, rushed 3's earlier in the game). The loss was a lack of perimeter defense where UL did not miss a shot for the last 8 minutes. A tired Luther would of had zero effect on our perimeter defense.

Disagree. Luther didn't look winded, he had adrenaline, he was in a zone and with him we were up 8. He could have played easily and should have never been pulled. Not when we had them on the ropes.

Pitino called timeout with the score 48-40.... and it was a full TV timeout. There was no reason to pull Luther... the TV timeout gave him a full blow.

When Jamie finally put him back in... Pitt was down 51-50. And what happened next? Pitt scored on four straight possessions and the game was tied 58-58.

But Louisville had their offensive confidence and mojo back now.

of course it is.

No, it really isn't. Here's the first three possessions for each team following the timeout with the score 48-40:

Louisville three.
Jamel Artis Turnover.
Onuaku dunk over Young
Mike Young missed hook shot
Louisville three
Mike Young Turnover

Score now 48-48.

Momentum swung. Louisville Mojo back. Pitt three empty possessions.

Dude ... not sure how to respond as I am not sure if you are just negative or love to upset people as your post are typical yet consistent. But Luther being pulled had nothing to do with Louisville not missing a shot. And, in fact, Young (who I thought took a too many selfish bad shots in the game) was very effective down the stretch. I did not agree with the sub, although it looked like Luther was tired, but our defensive focus lost this game.

Especially coming out of a full timeout. He had a 3 minute break after Pitino's timeout. It was a full TV timeout.

Don't even know what that means ... you do know Louisville did not miss a shot for like 8 minutes .. y'know, defense?
Which started when Luther went to the bench.

Louisville had 8 straight empty possessions before Luther was benched and was shooting 25% for the second half.

Mike "el matador" Young came back in and Louisville's offense started clicking again.

Not a coincidence.

I agree that I was not a fan of the sub, I wanted him in there ... but to me he did look winded and that had nothing to do with our pathetic perimeter defense at the end. Was not a fan of Young's piss poor 3's but he was effective on offense down the stretch. I understand your point in the moment, as I felt similar, but it did not play out that way.

And then we fail to stop them the rest of the game with Luther.

I'm fine with blaming Dixon... But blame him for the right issue..
Our pathetic perimeter defense and defense over all.
Ul shot 50% in the first half with Luther getting plenty of run.
They shot pretty much the same in the second.

At the moment of Luther coming out with the score 48-40, Louisville had shot 3-for-14 in the second half... 23%.

Those three possessions got them back into their flow and they went on a scoring run that we couldn't stop.

We had our foot on their necks... and we took it off.

Young's focus on offense .. and taking bad shots along with playing "iso" basketball .. is a huge problem. But his defense is not what killed us in the last 5 minutes ... it may on most occasions, but he actually was decent. We just played poor team defense down the stretch and UL hit there shots ... all of them.

Weird.

Is this the same Mike Young who you had going to the NBA after his junior year? It was silly to think that 5 weeks ago and it's unthinkable now.

You're right. *Benching* him gave them momentum. Once a good team gets the momentum, it's hard to wrest it from them.

We let them up off the mat at that moment... and they're too good to allow that.

Pitino was the happiest guy in the building after that timeout when he saw who Jamie had out on the floor.

Luther's removal from the game at 48-40 may not have stopped UoL from scoring/shooting but his absence in that stretch did NOT help the PITT offense. PITT needs to score 70 points or more to have a chance to beat most teams they play.

I can appreciate what UPITT89 is saying here. Mike Young did not play well on offense other than a few point blank dunks in the 2nd half. Seems to me PITT might have won this game had the focus been shifted ---- permanently from Young in the 2nd half. Running the offense through Artis, Robinson and even Luther seemed to be more effective tonight.

Where are the same clowns that said James could play in the NBA too??? That was only a few months ago.

He has the raw talent for it. You can't teach 6'9" and athleticism.

But he has failed to improve his basketball IQ. He's a dumb player. I thought that he would grow with experience into a smarter player. I was wrong about that.

In any case... he was putrid on THIS day.... but who knows, on Sunday he might play very well.

A coach has to know who "has it" and who doesn't on a particular day. Mike Young didn't today.

Okay.
At least you're fixating on something else.

Stop arguing with him 89, he never thinks he is wrong and will never concede anything. He is always right remember.

Funny. It was young and Robinson who I most took issue with tonight. Robinson missed an open jumper that would have put us up 10, and 5 seconds later Louisville hit a three to cut it to 5. That was the key moment for me. Robinson needs to hit those open jumpers. We'd be a much better team. It's a major issue for us all year and frankly the last couple years with him.

Arguing with him is not something I have a problem with. We disagree, but he is ok enough.
