In my opinion is directly attributable to a complete failure by Capel to establish a team orientation with this outfit and to formulate understood roles by every team member outside of Dunn , Leggett and Lowe. As I watched this team play their first 8-10 games, I was incredulous at the ball hogging, selfish play of these 3 guys…each of whom was seemingly focused on padding his stats and his aspiration of playing pro ball SOMEWHERE. I scratched my head watching these 3 guys ignore wide open teammates over and over again in favor of heaving up forced low percentage shots . More than once I asked myself at what point were the other members of the team going to tire of this selfish, mind numbing play and begin to go through the motions….and that’s exactly what has happened. And anyone who has ever played basketball can relate to exactly how the play of these 3 guys can and will destroy a team.
And you combine this selfish play with the fact that guys like the twins, Amsal, Cummings and Kante have NO idea why their roles have been modified , diminished or completely eliminated due to their inconsistent usage, and you have the complete recipe for killing team play and chemistry…..and there is NONE!
The fact that this staff has watched this mess build and build and done nothing to change this team’s offensive approach has to be one of the worst cases of coaching malpractice I’ve ever seen. I thought I would never again see the type of dysfunctional team we saw with X, McGowans and Toney, and yet we are right back at that nadir.
