1. First off - as a wise, crazy old man once said “Just Win Baby” so I’ll take the W and move on to South Bend.
2. Man what a dominating performance by the O Line in the 4th Q. These guys really struggle in pass protection but man they are some road grading Hogs in the run game.
3. Aston will find a spot in the NFL next year probably with a smart technician like BeliCheat. Kid is just an old school FB player who does all the dirty work in the run and pass games and on ST’s.
4. Maddening clock mgmt in the 4th quarter yesterday. Hey if rumors of a Pickett injury are true then you can accept taking the air out of the ball and playing smash mouth but this staff just doesn’t seem to be “crisp” if the minute details of FB and moving forward that’s pretty concerning to this Pitt fan.
5. Loved the tweaks on D. I know 37 points sounds like a ton to give up but 15 has been a nice addition against the Spread teams and Pitt played pretty well against a pretty potent attack and a potential NFL QB.
6. Still cant see what 20, 93, 32 & 7 bring to the table other than experience but I’ll leave that up to the staff that sees them everyday.
7. Ollison is a hammer and it couldn’t happen to a nicer kid - probably my favorite Pitt player this year.
8. Ra Ra Lopes has been quite a find and I shudder to think where we’d be without him.
9. Despite the win yesterday I’m just never gonna be sold on Shawn Watson. No situational awareness . Horizontal and mind-numbingly bad passing game. Poor footwork on KP. I could go on and on and on but why bother he’s Duzz’s guy.
10. Someting is wrong with #8. Not sure if he’s injured or he’s just a Sophomore trying to get his footing or a combo of both. Fact is though he’s really struggling out there. Thought another overlooked play yesterday was the over throw of a wide open Lopes behind the Cuse secondary by at least 5 yards when Pitt was up 27-17. Hit that throw there and Pitt probably wins going away. He’s gotta improve tremendously if Pitt’s gonna get Bowl eligible cause every team moving forward will sell out to stop the run and dare Pitt to beat them through the air.
In summary I’m still not a fan of this staff but why pile on after a nice win against a quality opponent. I’ll take the W and the 3-3 / 2-1 in the Coastal and see some of you in South Bend. Feel free to DM me if you wanna meet up for a cold one and put a face to a Lair screen name - H2P!
