As expected, NC State and Virginia Tech won their duals tonight, so Pitt will be in a three-way tie for the dual meet title with a win over Duke. If you have any fear that Pitt will somehow lose to Duke ... don't. The Blue Devils have been outscored 173-12 in the ACC. Pitt should win nine of 10 bouts, with Slinger having the toughest match.

To be fair, Duke doesn’t offer wrestling scholarships.
This wasn't meant to be a discussion on the merits of the Duke program, but since you brought it up ... Ivy League schools don't offer athletic scholarships either, but Cornell is consistently one of the best programs in the nation. Penn is on the rise again.
Does it make it much more difficult to win without scholarships? Absolutely, especially when the other schools in your conference offer them. But if the administration supports the program, there are ways to find money for athletes.

So it's obvious that the Duke administration doesn't support the wrestling program.
Definitely. From what I've been able to find online, as of 2015, Duke didn't fund its full allotment of scholarships for wrestling, men’s cross country/track & field, men’s and women’s swimming & diving, rowing, and men’s and women’s fencing, and rowing was scheduled to get its full allotment.
So, back to Mike's original point, it's really hard to be good without support.

Ivies don't offer athletic scholarships, but most find pretty good financial aid packages for students of special abilities (e.g. athletes their coaches want).

Which is really shameful for an athletic department with as much financial wherewithal as Duke's which has one of the largest athletic-specific endowments in the country. I'm sure they make little gate revenue on football, but still. The appearance of disinterest in these sports, shrugging off letting them get their brains beat in with every outing, is a ringing indictment of their AD.
