Recently followed Heather Lyke and Pat Narduzzi on twitter, if Stallings is fired Wednesday morning Crean and Thad Matta definitely look like the two choices Lyke goes after to get things started.

I like to exaggerate at times, make over statements but I kid you not, I don't think I could root for tom crean. he's THAT annoying to me. I love pitt so I don't think I'd root against him but I would have such an unbelievably hard time rooting for this guy to succeed..

I like Tom Crean. I'd be happy with him. I wouldn't do backflips like I would for some others but Crean is a guarantee in that we would be guaranteed to be good eventually. May take a few years but he would get us back to AT LEAST Dixon II and we should all be happy with that. Dixon II is ok for Pitt. The probem was Dixon wasn't recruiting well enough to sustain Dixon II.
I don't get why people are afraid of his temper. I really dont care if he yells at a fan or a reporter. He's a personable guy and has always recruited well (even at a CUSA Marquette program). I mean people forget even guys like Travis Diener and Steve Novak played in the NBA. I never felt overly confident playing Marquette.

He does come off as a bit of a jerk, but so what? Honestly, as long as he wins, I dont care if he punches a fan in the face after every game, I really don't
He would get us to the middle of the pack, and is an improvement over Stallings. But I’d have others ahead of him.

After Stallings, I could talk myself into being happy if they hired genital lice.
Crean was better at Marquette than he was at Indiana. Some coaches are better at under dog/ lesser brand programs. Any IU coach is compared to Bob Knight and then to Branch McCracken, and found wanting after 3 or 4 years of no Final Four.
If that were a big part of Crean's failure to get over the hump at IU, then he might be ideal for Pitt and vice versa.
Most coaches in the NCAA presently coaching have assistants that have been named in FBI investigations or will be named shortly. It's the nature of college basketball now. It's a cesspool, especially if you're successful. The more successful you are, the more you wallow around in the mud with the pigs.

Stop looking for goblins behind every tree in the forest...
Kinda stupid to say that we are looking for them when the goblin has been found. While its not to the level of Miller, its still a direct connection to the FBI investigation and shouldn't be considered. The guy is also an under-performer and world class jerk. Shouldnt be within a 100 miles of PITT.
You don’t have to live with him so who cares if he’s abrasive. All this fbi stuff is just nonsense ... relax. Pitt could do a lot worse than Crean.
and we can do a hell of alot better too. Its utter absurd to call it nonsense when we seem to be getting weekly updates and more names come out. We've got people indicted and facing 6 decades in prison. Its not nonsense at all.

I would have no problem if they hired Crean. He took Marquette to a final 4 and had IU in the sweet sixteen 3 times in his last 6 years.
Healthy Matta is far better, and Hurley has more upside without the FBI baggage

I agree - Crean is a very good coach - He would make us competitive again - But:
The fan base better exhibit some patience - Crean coaches a very athlete driven style - I do not see many of those players on the current Pitt roster - It will take time - He is probably not very well liked already - I doubt our fan base gives him much of a honeymoon
Much like what I said about Matta, Crean could quickly become Stallings II.
I think it would be better to avoid any chance of that by going with someone (hopefully) on the way UP.
4 conference wins in 2 seasons combined is hard to replicate in failure

It took Crean until his 4th year at IU, who was basically coming off a death penalty-like situation. The situation at Pitt is only slightly better. Its going to take time and I realize this is a pro fanbase with no patience. But this is also a reason you throw the fans a bone and dramatically drop ticket prices while pumping them up about the future. Maybe even sell Trust the Process shirts which went over so well in Philly. If I was Crean, I'd be honest up front and say, "Guys, I want to make the NCAAT but we have to be realistic, this is a complete rebuild and you have to stick with us. We'll get there but we need your support."
If Crean and Matta are on the short list, i like the neighborhood. Whether it's finally one of them or not, we're thinking the right way. Both of these guys have credible resumes.

Literally it would be hard for any coach to be Stallings 2...he’s failed that hard.

I don’t realize it because I turn off all that notification alerts because i frankly don’t care .
Are they on the short list because each was bought out of their contracts and would not require as much salary initially? I am okay with that as long as the money is there for the assistants. Not a fan of Crean the person though but if he wins...
I’m asking a serious question. Do you want a pure and clean program or do you want to win? I’m honestly asking because if you want a guaranteed clean coach then keep Stalings.
