Do we do a general funding page and have someone make that check donation to the football program as was done for the locker? It's another way to show Coach and AD Barnes we support them.

Back during the season I liked the idea and felt I could do my part, I donated to the Locker Fund. It was a great way for the low donor fan to be involved and throw our support to the football program.
This past season I attended two games and donated tickets to youth for the Carolina Game.

I will share some other thoughts and experiences that may lend to ideas from others to add or come up with a better idea to support team financially. We do need to come up with a way. As although I'm not alum our giving number is to low from that base so it needs to come from somewhere.

If someone starts the page I will put $100 toward it. With tax season happening it could be a nice way to make a donation.

Just donate to Pitt directly.
Why do you need a third party to take a percentage off the top?

Understood. Just looking at it as a way for a Donations as a group such as IPTAY (Clemson) or the old Golden Panthers.

Post is also to generate ideas: IPTAY which I'm very familiar with it was pride of everyone in that state to put that sticker on their car with the new year posted on it. As someone that was around it in SC for almost 10 years in their non glory years. The members actively recruited everyone to give something. Many felt they belonged to something big all over a sticker as sense of community.

I will make my donation directly and with if the board comes up with something. Already have 3 games planned for the fall.

Pantherproud, Send me a message and I will instruct you where to send your cash donation.Upon receipt I will arrange to remit the payment to Pitt athletics. You should receiver your car sticker within 3 days after I receive the donation

I don't understand why it is so hard for people to understand that the Panther Club is exactly the same thing as the Golden Panthers, minus the criminal activity of the people running the organization. Giving money to Team Pittsburgh is EXACTLY THE SAME THING as a donation to the Golden Panthers 35 years ago.

I would expect Pitt to use their crowdfunding platform (or a different, but similar platform for just athletics) to increase athletics fundraising and to increase the alumni participation percentage. Hopefully they can get something together by the start of the season, but you never know with the way they do things sometimes.

Maybe something online where you can give, or set up payroll deduction?

Smart enough to know there are multiple available and easy pathways to donate directly to Pitt athletics..which don't need a third party to skim off the top.
Yes.

If the current methods were so available and easy, there would have been no need for the Go Fund Me page. Pitt needs to revamp how they raise money for athletics, both in securing small donations that increases participation levels, and changing the culture of how the raise major gifts, as suggested by Barnes.

You are looking at this challenge fro Steve's perspective... that being "our fans are terrible so I'm not going to put much effort into it". Barnes is a winner, and he has identified weaknesses and will fix them.

There wasn't any reason for a gofundme page, and I stated that explicitly.

I'm not looking at it from any perspective other than avenues already exists, major gifts have been received...so your notion it will take years is pure bunk.

Currently methods are available and they are easy, so there is no need for a Go Fund Me page.

The problem isn't that it's hard to donate money or to figure out how to donate money, the problem is that not enough people actually do so even though it is both easy to do and easy to find out how.

It's like I am taking crazy pills every time i read thoughts like this .
Methods to donate aren't the problem .
If you can only the $10 the panther club will take it. I promise.

Wouldn't you want the entire $10 to go to Pitt , rather than only $7.80 of it?

I posted so ideas can be generated. How do we get new people to donate? As the Panther Club page isn't reaching it's full potential. The publicity and availability of Barnes and Duzz for radio, tv and social media is getting the word out. More from the fans side needs to be done. The locker is an example of everyone doing their part. Maybe small donations = a meeting room, recruiting expenses etc....

I would just like to see everyone start donating more. To support the work these guys are putting in and be in the top 25 yearly then become a top 15 to 18 team etc...

Yes.

Yet, people willingly gave via the third party. You continue to refuse looking at reality. The REALITY is that Pitt fans gave via that third party for a reason. The person who created that go fund me page is now on the Fan Committee. He was able to unite fans over something as trivial as a single locker. You continue to hope that Pitt fans will suddenly meet YOUR standards, instead of focusing on the reality of the situation, which is that the giving page apparently didn't work well enough to excite those fans to give through it.

Here is another example. On Pitt's "Ways to Give" page that you linked, the matching gift section is a 2 page PDF document from 3 years ago, with a small number of matching gift companies listed. There are literally thousands of more companies that match gifts, and if you go to WVU's athletics giving page, they have it setup for a donor to search for their company with real time matching giving data returned. PSU and OSU have the same setup as WVU. It costs under $1,000 per year to add a link to your giving website for this feature. Why hasn't Pitt figured out that it is advantageous? I will give you one guess. This is just one small example of the things Barnes will need to fix.

you mean the one gift for the locker room was via gofundme,
Then others were not .

Thanks for making the point the third party method did not substantially increase the scope.

Only difference is none of the gofundme donors will get any credit ...
As supposed to all of the folks who gave to Pitt directly .

Cheers

The point is that Pitt can set something similar up in the future, and then they can count each donor and increase their participation percentage for athletics giving. You start people small, and keep them involved. It is sad that you can't seem to comprehend the concept.

They have it set up directly is the point .
No reason to have to taken off the to by a third party.
Very simple

The whole thing seems silly to me, as I see GoFundMe as something people use to raise money for medical conditions, not athletic teams that already rake in millions of dollars.
