You have to wonder what is going to happen to the recruits out of high school this recruiting cycle with all the players in the portal and being granted an extra yr of eligibility. Not talking about the top players as they will be have no problem finding a team but what about the others? This is going to be a tough yr for HS seniors to find a home imo! thoughts?

Anybody care to take a stab at quantifying the number of additional players based on the extra year of eligibility? Obviously transfers are already accounted for but for the most part you would rather have a transfer than a high school senior as part of your team unless the high school senior is a top recruit.

do transfers make kids decommit? i think we see some of that

Yes,
Actually, I may disagree a bit with the OP, if you were highly rated and expecting a big freshman year, it would be hard to see who else you may be competing with as compared to other years.

It happens. A few years ago when Buzz was at Marquette, he pulled a scholarship from DJ Newbill out of Philadelphia because a transfer wanted to commit late in the cycle. Newbill had to be released from the LOI he signed, went to Southern Miss for a year, and ended up having a nice career at Penn State. Buzz is going to have a hard time landing a kid from Philly for the rest of his career because of it.

Do transfers impact the permitted cap on scholarships due to the one year Covid exemptions. I don't know exactly how that factors in, but if theses transfers don't count as a scholarship, the impact would be less. I know they get an extra year eligibility, but not sure about being counted against a player limit.

They do not count towards the # of schoolies

Yes they do, at least that’s my understanding. Everyone gets an extra year of eligibility, and the “super seniors” who stay don’t count against that school’s count...but a super senior who portals to another school will have his scholarship count against the transfer school’s 13 scholarships.
