listen from the 4 min mark on.

1) He thinks he and X are much better than last year. Goes to show that box scores don't tell half the story.

2) The social media part is eye opening. Whether it's this board, Twitter, Instagram, etc. - it had a negative impact on these kids. I'd assume that's where the "debbie downer" derived from.

Not surprised about the Internet/social media comments. So many disingenuous people hiding behind anonymity to incite, provoke, instigate, etc. Lots of misinformation and disinformation. Not sure how society in general is going to handle all of the associated issues.

But sports message board trolling and other social media attacks on individuals are obviously just a tiny blip compared to the hacking, criminal activity and espionage that threaten personal identity, finances, politics, etc. Hopefully Pitt is doing the best job they can to educate athletes that are being targeted and make them aware of some of the bad intentions being directed towards them. Maybe as part of Pitt's excellent "Life Skills" program?

Trouble is they aren't distinguishing between trolls and people with legitimate criticisms of their game. They don't want to hear it about sometimes being out of control or selfish with the ball as in unwise drives into traffic.

sorry Trey and X but in the real world there will be criticism. And sometimes it will be fair. You got to figure out which is which.

My view is that something derogatory from an anonymous source on a public forum is not legitimate criticism. Others can feel differently. If the name of the critic is known to add credibility, that may be different. I'm talking about those that could never bounce a basketball twice without losing it. I really couldn't care less about what someone who never played beyond gym class, intramurals or pick-up games - or never played at all - has to say directly to a player at the P5 level criticizing his play.

The BEST thing for the players would be to stay off public social media sites that allow anonymous comments. But I'm sure the temptation is tremendous. So I believe it'd be in the best interests of the players to be getting some solid advice and counseling from those that they know and trust to enable them to deal with those whose intentions aren't good. Maybe they already are getting that at Pitt? Hope so.

It’s the devil’s work. It’s all an illusion

How many of us here in this forum know college basketball well enough to make any kind of criticism or assessment of these players? We all have opinions, but if these players actually read stuff here and in other places, they need to consider the source and know it's all coming from a fans' perspective where many (all) of us don't know much at all about college basketball. And they also need to ignore it and get a thicker skin. Take it as a learning lesson.

They doubled ACC wins and can finish with more than double. They are doing something right and also thanks to UNC being down. But criticism comes In all forms. That’s the way it works. If the greatest players in their sport get the negative with the positive.
These guys will be even better next year and they are helping erase the stallings stink for good.

One thing I hope these kids realize is that their player development is only one thing. Fans do get frustrated and are impatient. They should just work as hard as they can. It's the only thing in their control.

But another thing I hope they realize is that many of us fans are just as cognizant of their demeanor. I am much more satisfied to see our players, as Trey does here, represent himself and the University well. I love seeing that we have good kids as much or more than their having superstar ability.

I am proud of our players.

Really JC tells them when they played bad and I'm sure there real homies tell them to so we know they know the question they have to ask themselves is how can I stop the the bad stuff I do and that could be just a maturity thing. Like last Trey came down on a semi brake And tried to throw a LOB pass and it went into the 3rd row he looked straight at coach as he put his hands on his head And coach did the same thing but right then he knew he tried something crazy so he's he'll get there and so will X.

they're 19 years old. They're just kids. It's easy for us adults to shake this stuff off or like you said, consider the source, however they are still just kids.

The only criticism they need to worry about are JC and his staff's criticism. They'll learn that... Lotta couch potatoes spewing venom. Tune it out.

I never played organized basketball and don't pretend to be an X and O guy. But I know good fundamental hoops and I know when a guy is hogging the ball and not looking to share it and I don't think it is wrong for me to say it. Fortunately our guards are playing much better now.

There's a big difference between legitimate feedback from a boss, manager, or coach and a bunch of jagoffs on the internet.

No problem. They are playing better. Needs to continue.

I try to put myself in the shoes of a 19 or 20 year old. How I felt and reacted back then without having to endure the public's input. VERY HAPPY there was no social media or blogs in those days. Would've been tough to stay away from reading about my miscues on the field or the court from my critics.

Coulda' ruined my career!
