Trib giving extensive coverage of WV bball, notable is effective recruiting by Huggins and Everhart and building current team with JUCOs.

That's what happens when you are the only team within a 100 miles that is still dancing. Hopefully that comes to an end today. Hail to Pitt!

Re: Reply

Regardless of local coverage in Pittsburgh, bottom line is......Huggy took WVU (I can't stand WVU) from rags to riches in one year. He's no role model compared to our choirboy coach. In fact he may be all the things this board says, he is but he knows basketball and he CAN coach.

Jamie may have missed an opportunity by not adding Everhart to his staff after Duquesne stupidly fired him.

Do not disagree with anything you say here. I respect a guy that adapts and gets his kids to win...even if it is not always the way he usually does it. Of course I will be cheering hard today that he loses big time. Will be unbearable to see the Hoopies advance while we are home thinking about what could have been. Hail to Pitt!

Everhart

Please, Everhart did NOT do a good job at Duquesne...he may be a great recruiter, but Duquesne couldn't keep any players under him and that program was making no progress

Next year, Ferry will have experience, depth and will win.

You say--"Jamie may have missed an opp'y....:

Ah, reverse engineering...or the "I saw it on TV" syndrome
See someone associated w/ something successful who has some remote connection to Pgh, and then bemoan the loss

Perhaps you forget the Everhart is from WVA, is Huggy's long-time close friend and once slept on Huggy's floor for awhile.
I doubt there was any opp'y to miss.

But never mind, you saw it on TV after-the-fact, and second guessing won't be deterred by the facts

If you want to opine, make a comment about something before it happens

One thing Huggy and JD have in common...

Posters rail about Dixon micro-managing players and preventing the free flow of their talents

First, all D-1 players have to play under close scrutiny--if that's a problem, it's a deal breaker

Second, Huggy can coach

Third, if any coach openly, loudly, profanely and incessantly micro-manages, it's Huggy.
Who can forget his game long open haranguing of Joe Alexander?
Players go to WVA to get pushed by him. It's part of his draw and it's not seen as a bad thing.
He relies heavily on the "punitive substitution" if you displease him.
With Dixon, however, the same behaviors are seen as interference and stifling growth and creativity.

What you say is all true, but didn't one of his players get up and leave the team DURING a game a few years ago? Not saying it hasn't happened before, but I haven't seen it since with any team. Huggy may be the greatest guy and a HOF coach, but he's a personal mess and all the yelling reminds me of Evans.

I'll take Bob Huggins any day, he can coach. He's not a professor, but he knows basketball, that's what they pay him for! Go Mountaineers !

psndad. And the same can be said of Calipari, the man knows hoops, stop whining please!

B.B. not pleased!

2 Thoughts on those 2 articles.

1) You know Rob Rossi is an unabashed Hoopie don't you? I mean, the comments that "the city would like to see another team besides Pitt succeed is all you need to know. Rossi is a WVU grad.

2) I love Huggins. I am a fan. But....did you notice in that article almost every player was an academic washout somewhere else? And not exactly at Ivy League level schools too. Just sayin........

Which is interesting because Kovacevic never covered WVU - save for the occasional gamethread - due to lack of interest.

Rob Rossi is also a WVU alum, so add that to the fact they're the only regional team still playing and you get this type of coverage.

Of course you would. You can keep him. He, Holgy, their bartenders, wvu and you belong together.

Rossi's article was also a slap in the face of Duquesne AD Greg Amadio.

A well deserved slap in the face too!

don't remember that...but sounds right...

Zavackas ended his Pitt career the same way

Know someone who is buds w/ Huggins, and his reputation for
being demanding is a draw to some recruits

I remember being belittled on this board last year for saying that I would take Huggins over Beilein any day of the week. No offense, but the reason books make money is because squares only remember the last thing they saw.

Wait.... Huggins has one FF at WVU.. it's the only thing he has over JD
