Tyler Boyd's NFL Combine Numbers, going to need a miracle on draft day

-When another team, high school, college, or NFL, wins 4 World Championships in 6 years, let me know.

-Tom Brady is still a wannabe jackass, and will never beat 4 out of 6 years Champions. Goodnight, Brady. Steelers, Greatest ever.

That is not the debate - the point is combine numbers are not the be all, end all.[/QUOTE
I'm with you on that. But my point is you have to be strong head to toe because getting off the LOS in the NFL isn't what it used to be. You don't see many Darrel Green-type 5'8 speedster corners in the NFL anymore. You see physical specimens at 6'1 210 with sprinter speed and linebacker strength. Boyd needs work there, and I'm confident he'll get there.

-Superior is a strong word. Boyd had 5 Fumbles this year at Pitt. 5, for a WR.
Fumbles aren't any indictment of the guy's hands. He's got flypaper hands catching the ball. Protecting it is a different issue--but if memory serves me, most of those fumbles were on punts.

He will do fine in the NFL. Not superstar good, but good enough to play a lot and make a really good living. He needs to work on this strength.

Don't see where all this is coming from. Boyd's future in the NFL is pretty much of a #2 guy, a slot receiver. Those guys don't go real high in the draft. But he will almost certainly go mid to late 2nd round and make some nice money. I'd be surprised if he doesn't have at least a 4-5 year or more solid career.

From what I've seen what he lacks in breakaway speed he makes up for in really good ball skills. I wish him nothing but the best.
Excellent analysis. Who the hell is "Steel Curtain" anyway?

6'1 197lbs

4.58 and 4.61 in the 40 yard, weak

11 Reps at 225lb on the bench, which is a 310lb bench, which is weak as hell

34 Inch Vertical, below average

4.35 shuttle, which is below a good time

6.92 in the cone

-Hope his route running was Elite, because not else a lot to like with those numbers. I wouldn't draft him, but I wish him the best of luck and a long career in the NFL. Good luck Tyler, you need to play for New England, best team for your type of talent.

Two things.

1. Tyler Boyd will be drafted tonight.

2. You are quickly becoming a true board flamer/ negative nanny.

Steel, this post really comes across as an unhinged attempt to root against a guy who had a really special career at Pitt. There are plenty of players who've had terrible combine numbers that have been great pros. How about Anquan Boldin? Dude ran a 4.77 40 with a sub 34" vertical. Antonio Brown's numbers sucked, as did Shady McCoy's. Hell, Mike Evans is huge and he only had 12 bench reps.

The converse is also true. How many combine warriors have been drafted early only for teams to find out they can't play footbal? Darius Heyward-Bey and Matt Jones immediately come to mind.

Tyler Boyd is a gamer, plain and simple. He's an elite route-runner and has fantastic hands. He'll get a lot more one-on-one coverages in the NFL. A team with a vertical threat like Dallas or San Diego would allow Boyd to make a killing in the middle of the field. I expect him to have a solid career in the NFL, his combine numbers notwithstanding.

I just don't get this post.

I see Pitt's Tyler Boyd having the same focus, hands, and catch after the run abilities as good as any that was often doubled team in College but still caught and came down with the ball. Plus, can run back Punts!

I would not mind if the Steeler's took him. Boyd is reliable, consistent, and reminds me so much of Fitzgerald, Revis, and Donald. All 3 Just focus on their game and very quiet Doers and will just get better making any Team better as well.

It is not just having the talent to play in the NFL, it is what a Player does to keep developing his talent for his Team and his Family and Himself. Pitt can be proud of Boyd and will become prouder in the future as well, just a Hunch!

I've read he is one of the hotter names moving up draft boards.

Me too. And he's dominating other measurables. I read he not only has the strongest hands and is the best at difficult catches in the whole draft, but also has the largest range of any WR too. Personally I think he's going to be an absolute stud, and it's last season that convinced me. He made an awful lot of NFL type catches last year with guys all over him when everyone knew the ball was going to him.

He's going to be a pro bowler. Just really really needs to put on some muscle so he doesn't get decapitated going over the middle...especially considering how upright he runs.

Just a Hunch, but if Boyd is not taken in the next few picks, have a Hunch Bengal's may grab him? Clemson CB is available, wonder if Steelers grabs two this year?
