they even think of playing this game if Pitt refused to subject the athletes to the outbreak ? I have very little confidence this will be brought under control in the next few months and Pitt would have a real way out of the game if was going to be played in Florida.

It would be something if we picked up another home game and then played down there the next two years.

So you think Miami should play all their games on the road? Wow, get over it, what "fear", maybe sweat from an infected Miami player will infect Pitt players? LOL!

Will mosquitos be a concern in November?
I have actually heard it

DDT...miss you badly...you were railroaded out of existence and your loss created more unnecessary deaths than caused by Hitler, Stalin and Mao combined....

You obviously don't know anything about Dengue, Zika or any other Mosquitoe illness. Google it.

Yawn, although an interesting topic for alarmists...I have attended every football game Pitt has played in Miami since 1984, and have never been bitten by a mosquito, nor have I even seen any. In fact, I've never seen a mosquito at any football game I have ever attended, and that includes venues in plenty of places knows to have mosquitos. If you are a nervous nelly, wear insect repellant and cover up. I think the odds of attending a football game and being bitten by a person are higher than being bitten by a mosquito. The football games will be played in Miami...just as they should be. In fact, I am really looking forward to the road trip, going down on Thursday and staying at the W! Hail to Pitt!

Help me out. Besides having a terrible effect on pregnant women and their babies, I didnt think that even getting Zika was even that big of a deal for like 99.9% of men or women who were not pregnant.

It's really not...some people don't even get symptoms

Yea I mean this is getting Ebola coverage but this is a disease that has an infinitely small mortality rate in comparison and most people don't even know they had it. Now, its awful for pregnant women, so much so, that there are ad campaigns encouraging women in the most affected areas to put off getting pregnant but unless there are a ton of pregnant women in traveling parties of ACC teams, there is no reason to move those games.

For an athlete, Guillain-Barre Syndrome is a big worry and is happening in large numbers in the Carribean Basin. Basically being paralyzed for 1-6 months. On a lesser scale, severe joint pain and fatigue for two weeks.

I have spent several weeks in South Florida this summer ( and often do ) and the mosquitoes are worse than I have seen in 20 years.

Maybe I should have asked if any ACC or SEC game will be effected. I mean I want to point out women attend games and also work for Pitt. Sideline reporters, female workers at Stadium, etc.

It goes beyond a bunch of guys on the field.

Let's make an Internet bet that there will be serious discussions of moving some game. A few miles from Sun Life Stadium was issued the first ever domestic travel warning yesterday. It's a Pandemic that will effect the USA.

People can discount it but I can assure you if you have family in Miami that could have children, there is some urgency going on. We have some young asst coaches. Not seeing a Mosquito before Christmas is absurd in Miami. They are everywhere.

Well a road trip to Miami for some college football shouldn't involve taking your pregnant wife. Sexist I know but true. This is just another excuse to tell her to stay home.

If Zika is rampant and Games get played, it might be an interesting bet to see how any teams do for the next two weeks after they are in Miami. Let's say it's all about nothing, they get the Virus and clear it in 14 days. It could at least slow down 20% of the team the next week.

Some truth to that... Butthere is a bit more to it than that. It can also be transmitted sexually, so you better be prepared to stay celibate with your pregnant wife, too (or practice safety).

The risk is mostly to pregnant women or women who are trying, but also to men who have pregnant/trying partners.

There are probably more areas to worry about than Miami. If the mosquitos in question have gotten that far, they sure as heck aren't going to stay put. (There are probably climatic and seasonal limits to how far they will spread, but then again, I doubt the virus itself will be confined to those.)

The other thing I don't understand is...This was/has been a problem for years now...This just didn't happen over night or this past year. The only thing different is doctors actually know whats wrong and what's causing it now.Point being, Pitt players may have been put in just as much harm when they were there in Nov.2014.

Zika is a virus that for the most part is self-limiting and for most (not all) produces no symptoms. Unfortunately, pregnant women (especially in the first trimester) are at the greatest risk. This has nothing to do currently with college age male football players. So no, I don't expect that there will be any changes to Miami's scheduling of games. However, if I was a woman trying to get pregnant (or currently pregnant), until they develop some kind of vaccine, I would stay the hell away from there.

20% of the team is now not only being bitten, but infected with Zika and actually showing real symptoms? Are you serious? "md" is for Maryland, right?

So Miami will agree to play all road games and all their opponents will refuse to show up? I doubt that very much. Will all the Dolphins games be rescheduled too? How about the rest of the Marlins schedule? Or is it OK for pro athletes to get infected? LOL. Nobody is rescheduling. Won't matter, Zika will be everywhere when the Olympic team get's back, LOL

.

No there won't! They didn't cancel the Olympics, Florida has maybe 7-8 D-1 college teams, 3 NFL teams, 2 MLB teams, they aren't going to force them all to play all road games over this!

I never said all road games. I'm saying you will hear a discussion about the impact and there will be talk.

I want to point out MLB games the Pirates were involved with this year were cancelled and moved for this reason.

There is a precedent along with athletes dropping out of Olympics.

$urely you do under$tand all the rea$son$ for that, don't you?

I mean if raw sewage in the water at all the outdoor water sports venues didn't raise any concern with the IOC then why on earth would a few skeeters?
That water situation is unreal. Swimming in that water is basically no different than sticking your head into an unflushed public toilet.

Read something the other day that said that Rio promised to spend $300 million to try to abate the problem, mostly on a new sewage treatment plant, but in the end they actually spent something like $1.5 million, and most of that went to hiring people who walked around cleaning the trash up on the beach when stuff washed ashore.

Not surprising that the money that didn't get spent was the money that actually would have benefited the average citizen long after the Olympics were gone and the money that did get spent isn't going to help out the average person one bit.
