Once UNCW took advantage of Pitt being unwilling and unable to shoot the 3-ball they were able to take away the inside game that was effective in the 1st half.

It won’t be long until every team that we play, with much better players, does the same.

Jeffress was 3-6 and did have 9 boards, 2 steals and hustled like crazy.

He was 1-5 from the line and had 5 turnovers and 0 assists.

Getting his hands on the ball as much as he does, Does he hurt more than help?

He was -2, no one else playing more than 10 minutes was less than +4.

His role needs to be defense, rebounding, and the dirty work.

Jeffries is a wash at this point but as the season rolls on he will be positive as he has physical attributes and will develop the game to help us. I am bullish on his progression

Good question. Tonight he hurt us
a lot, but Capel sticks with him
because he's a work in progress.
The talent (latent) is there, and
it shows in pieces. Unfortunately
he makes glaring errors. If he
doesn't have the TO's, his stats
tonight weren't bad.

You're right, he hustles and is
a good rebounder. He hurts us
with the TO's.

I thought we played better in the first half with him out.

in our ugly second half, Santos only played 5 minutes. I think that was a mis, take.

I agree.
Santos actually is playing
better. He seems to know
what he can and can't do.
I feel he plays within himself
which is good. Jeffress is
trying to do too much. I
feel he needs to let the
game come to him, not
force it.

Did Santos get a seat for not shooing?
Listening to the post game, I think Santos sat because he is a “guard” and Burton played.

For Coach Capel, it does not seem a choice exists of Jeffress or Santos. Apparently Jeffress will play big minutes no matter what.

I think it's more a case of
Burton being able to come
in and play guard in place
of Santos. Capel probably
wouldn't let Santos stay
on the floor in place of
Jeffress. IMO Capel is going
to go with Jeffress, even if
it takes more time for him
to develop.

LOL...I just posted the same.
We must be thinking alike
tonight.

The guards will now be
1. Femi, 2. Burton 3.Santos,
4. walk on Ezeakudo.
I'd like to see Santos get
time at the small forward/
wing position. Maybe then
we can shoot some 3's
since there's no one else
even looking to do it other
than Hugley.

Capel said Jeffress is a gaurd.

I think Capel is reluctant to face the possibility that the unheralded Santos, Olidapo, Gueye and Payton may be currently better players than his higher ranked recruits Jeffress and Collier.

Santos and Olidapo both scored ia bit n the first half. In the second half they had two points between them.

It wasn’t because they were missing shots.

The ball was in Jeffress hands too much with little to show for it.

He's a miss. Will be at Drexel next year.

it's hard for me to give up on underclassman because we've seen players from soph-junior make noticeable progression. It was under a more formidable regime, but it's a consistent progression with these types of kids across the country.

that said, he looks lost and has issues cracking the rotation on one of the worst P5 teams ever assembled.

This is the key. If you cant get time on the worst P6 team, you arent a P6 player. Average players from Oakland and Stony Brook are playing over him.

I know Oladapo has posted decent numbers the last two games, but it's clear he's overmatched. He's going to be abused in the ACC.

Or maybe I just watch too much NBA nowadays.. I'm just baffled with how low the skill level is with most of these kids.

He's not great, that's for
sure. However I feel we're
a better team with him on
the floor. His experience alone
makes him valuable. That
experience is more than
obvious on this team.

Actually he's like a wing/guard.
When you see Femi on the
floor with Burton or Ezeakudo,
Jeffress is out on the wing. It's
sometimes called a third guard,
or a wing. Actually he's like a
3, in other words the small
forward spot.

Right. He reminds me a lot of Toney in his freshman year here. Will is a slightly better rebounder than Audiese was as a freshman and Toney had a better handle as a freshman, both struggled early on offense and couldn't shoot. With a team that JC admits can't shoot why not have the kid on the floor who can shoot a bit at the 3 in place of Will? who can't shoot at all right now

I'm cringing at Jeffress ,Santos getting alot of time at the 2.
Pitt might hit 40 turnovers.

Our backup point guard has a 58% turnover percentage which is by far the worst on the entire team. A 58% turnover percentage over the course of a whole season might be a division 1 record for a guard as the worst, as in all time worst on any team.

On the 8 win Kevin Stallings team, no guard was over 26% turnover percentage. Our backup point guard is over twice as bad as that. Xavier Johnson, who has been a turnover machine his entire college career, has never been over 26%.

The entire team needs to clean up the turnovers. Our backup point guard should never play.

I think everybody including Capel would prefer that.

I would prefer Collier never plays.

I would also like to see Jeffress time at around 14 minutes.

Where do you see those stats?
