UK all the way

As I posted, I think Brey blew it at the end by having Grant go 1 on 5 too often, but as someone else posted, with that roster, anything less than 15 pt minimum blow-outs every game means Cal did a bad coaching job.

Not putting a body on Auguste kept the game close.

2 7-footers trying to block every shot left a wide open lane. Contesting every shot is sound defense, but leaving someone alone to try it is bad.

The kids played bad. Cal won it by subbing O for D the last six minutes and pounding it to Towns.

Not shocked that he will get ni credit from you guys.

Both coaches did a good job. No way did Brey coach Grant to dominate the ball in those last possessions. If you think he did you didn't watch the rest of the game. That was a classic case of a kid deciding he wanted to be the hero to the detriment of his team. And recruiting kids that are 7 foot to dominate the paint and contest 3 point shots was Cal's most brilliant coaching of the night.

Re: Really????

If UK doesn't blow every single opponent out by more than 15 pts it is a bad coaching job. For someone who likes to come across as so much more intelligent than everyone else about BB to the extent as appearing as a snob many times, that isn't a very intelligent comment. How many of the current year's tourney games have you watched, very difficult for many if not most of the favorites to cover the point spread let alone win by 15+ points every time they get on the court.

I'm definitely no college BB expert but I just got back from 2 weeks in Vegas watching about 90%+ of every game over the last 2 weeks. So many games going down to the wire. Unfortunately, would have made way more $ if I would have just taken the underdog every game.

It's obvious by your comment that you just don't like Cal and are not making objective comments because of it. Yeah they have a great team, but a good bit of that is defensively. They have all the size in the world but are not really the most impressive team offensively. Too expect them to blow everyone out by more than 15 pts is unrealistic. It's not like there aren't any other good teams in college BB.

Re: Really????

I didn't originate that 15 point comment. I explicitly said that somebody else posted it. Need to work on your reading comprehension a bit? . I just don't remember which poster said it or I'd have quoted him directly. I thought Drunk's coment that Cal outcoached Brey was fairly absurd considering that nobody outside the shadow of the Golden Dome gave ND a serious chance to win and responded with a similar level of absurdity. Obviously, the original poster was using hyperbole. Wbr's comment that Cal's best coaching move was recruiting 7-footers was priceless.

I freely admit I detest Calipari. I've made that clear for years. I don't think anyone who has had to vacate two tournaments should be allowed to coach in college. I objectively think his presence is objectional. The New York Times is not far behind me in their recent article.

While Cal is a tremendous recruiter, and may not actually cheat any more, I think he's less than a great coach. He has taken the best team in the country into the Tournament three or 4 times before this season and won ONE title. I have also said I hope he goes undefeated and goes to the NBA because I think his model of assembling super-teams of one-and-dones is BAD for college basketball.

I've watched probably two thirds of the games, or portions of them and I completely agree that upsets abound. They generally do which is why my often-expressed position that single elimination tournaments are not a valid method to select the best team in the country.

Harve, This UK team isn't a super team of one & dones. How many future NBA all-stars do you think are on this current NBA roster?

Re: Really????

NBA All-stars?

Not so many but there ARE 9 McDonald's All Americans on their roster.

I think the Harrison's were overated but they might have been one-and-done's last season. Andrew is projected as a second rounder this year, if he comes out.

Towns is a 1-and-done now, maybe as high as #2 overall.

Booker and Lyles and Cauley-Stein are certainly 1st rounders, with the last two projected in the lottery.

Dakari Johnson and Poythress are projected 2nd rounders this year by NBADRAFT.net.

Marcus Lee and the other Harrison will be drafted sooner or later but not this year.

I'd certainly classify any team with 3 Lottery picks, another First rounder and 3 second round picks as a super team. I think EVERYBODY would.

Re: Really????

Oh yeah, they are the most talented team in the tourney, but I'm not buying all this hype that they are one of the greatest of all time if they win out.

Re: Really????

Team full of one and dones has only 4 freshman with the opportunity to actually be 1 and done. 2 start but one of them starts because Poythress tore his ACL. 2 possibly 1 will actually be one and done. Some of you are absolutely clueless whining about team full of one and dones, do some actual research before being fake outraged.

Oh, I agree with that. I think they are the highest recruiting rank team of all time. I'm not even sure about MOST talented, but they are talented, LONG and deep. They had their off-game and should probably walk to the title now.

It's difficult to compare teams across eras. And in college basketball, it seems about 6-8 years is an era.

I tend to think most guys would be better with a year or three's coaching and experience. Willy Cauley Stein is much better this year than as a freshman for example.
