Very tough year so far for me with deaths of:

David Bowie(whose music I discovered in 1993 with 'Black Tie, White Noise' album then went back to buy all of his older albums on CD, and all albums that were released after 1993). I am still trying to come to terms that Bowie is gone, as I was looking forward to more new music from him since his recent return from a 10 year break with 2 excellent albums('The Next Day' & 'Blackstar').

Maurice White, the founder of Earth, Wind & Fire(had a Greatest Hits CD in the 1990s and went back to buy their entire catalog, and all albums up until the recent 'Now, Then & Forever'. Actually Maurice White was no longer touring with the band due to Parkinson's Disease around 1993, but he was the genius behind their earlier albums).

And now Prince. The World just got a little less Purple.

"But life is just a party, and parties weren't meant 2 last"

My favorite Prince Albums:

What Time is it?-The Time(written by Prince-Jamie Starr)
The Love Symbol Album
Emancipation
The Black Album
Purple Rain
1999
Graffiti Bridge
3121
Crystal Ball
Diamond & Pearls
Parade
Gold Experience

I am kicking myself for not buying his live 3 CD Set, 'One Night Alone', as it is very expensive through the secondary market now. I will need to see if it is available on Download. I remember that it had good reviews, but at the time I was not interested in songs from 'The Rainbow Children', but missed out on live versions on his other songs including deeper album tracks.

Lots of these entertainers burn the candle at both ends which shortens things up by a lot!
Its their lifestyle.
Most choose that lifestyle and had lots of fun! Just compressed things into a shorten life span.

To each his own. Never had much interest in popular music or music in general. Didn't know anything about Prince except that based on media reports he seemed famous and died young. Chyna? Never heard of her until her early death showed up in the news. Seemed like she had a tragic and wasted life devoid of the truly important things like a loving family. Prayers for both.

As usual its not so unbelievable that Prince is dead.

Prince was reportedly treated for a drug overdose six days before his death on Thursday, according to TMZ.

It gets them everytime but life is about choices isn't it!
If that's true, then my opinion of him will change - not my opinion of his musical accomplishments, but of the man.

The guy was truly gifted in all aspects of music: writing, performing, producing...you name it, he could do it as good as, or better than anyone else.

But if his death was drug-related, then he falls into the category of Joplin, Morrison, Hendrix, and so many others whose chosen lifestyle was more than they could handle. (Compare that to the battle that our own James Conner is fighting - he appreciates life, and he's fighting to live.)
