After reading the North Carolina Papers looks like Pitt and UNC are having problems on Defense. So, I am starting to see the big difference will be the Offenses and the UNC QB will have a slight edge over Pitt QB. I expect another High Scoring game like PSU & OKSU and can go either way. It would be great to see the Players adjusting by the 4th Game and become more consistent on Defense, Pass better on Offense, and see good Special teams win this game. UNC has been able to beat Pitt on Special Teams the last 3 games. Some due to Refs Calls and Non-Calls?

I still think Pitt Wins and entering 3-1 into this season is just fine. Yet, been here 3 years before now. Up to Pitt Players to execute and do it, not my thinking which, is worthless as just an opinion guess?

Good points made by Chizik & Pitt's OC Canada is 1-2 against UNC when OC at NCS: 2013-27-19-L by 8,
2014-35-7-W by 28,
2015-35-45-L by 10

Both Teams still in transition in inconsistent executions.
We Shall See!

Excerpt:

“I thought we performed poorly,” Chizik said when asked for his reaction to UNC's defensive performance three days earlier against James Madison, which gained nearly 500 yards against the Tar Heels. “That's probably being very kind.”........Chizik grew up tough, raised by a father who served in the Marines during World War II. If there's one thing Chizik can’t stand, it's softness – a failure to exert maximum effort – and so he spoke with disdain for what he witnessed against James Madison, which had its way early last Saturday. The Dukes scored touchdowns on their first three possessions. Chizik said he didn't notice a good defensive play until sometime midway through the second quarter................... “And soft defense is a choice. And that's the choice that we made, so we've got to improve a lot this week or this game could get ugly.”

Thanks for posting.

Offense should look better against NC this time vs the last year.

Just hoping our coaches and DBs have learned from their mistakes in the OSU game.

Although I agree with all said above, I see it another way too. Pitt has been great with Long Opening Drive TD s in PSU & OKSU Games. Same in the Second Half too.

UNC DC Chizik wants to make sure that his UNC Defense does not fall behind and then the Offense have trouble catching up like Pitt did to PSU and OKSU did to Pitt in its Game. This Game too will be close towards the end if both offenses execute.

Chizik has gone against Canada Offenses too, and knows they can be explosive and consistent?

So, the edge is to make sure Pitt does take a big lead just like OKSU knew too. Making Pitt play Catch-Up is the better way. Pitt Offense still needs to develop a Passing game worthy of making it Running Game beating the clock!

UNC has a QB & RB just like Pitt that do the same and maybe better on Passing?

We shall see?

-Depends, there could be to 4 defensive line players out for UNC including 3 starters. They have been gashed in the run game badly this year.
As I see it, Pitt is getting closer to a Break Out Balance Offense. When QB Peterman runs he makes big gains, but Pitt needs the WRs & QB to really be consistent, execute, and be open on precise Passing Routes. Until that happens and Pitt WRs get confidence with QB, Pitt can't just depend on RBs and TE!

Really important this Game bring it all together to prepare for Miami, GT, VT, and Clemson on a Balance Offense Attack Hard to Beat!

Until Pitt Defense get better on Coverage's and QBs Pressure and Linebackers coverage and tackles with good DBs shutdowns too, more than ever!

Pitt really has had trouble covering PSU & OKSU Wideouts and Running Backs all scoring Big Fast TDS??? Pitt outlasted in one game and came up short in the other game.

It wasn't just last week for our DBs, it's been 2 years running

Yes. Yes it has been.

And that won't change until there are more talented CB ready to play or until the coaches stop daring teams (with QBs who throw well) to go deep, by keeping the CBs a few more yards off the line of scrimmage.

That quote was obviously for his own player's consumption.

Until I see the right side of the OL creating holess fir this run game, I'll remain skeptical on how productive this offense can be against UNC. I'm optimistic that the sophomores will get things moving, but PITT needs to run both left and right of center.

Run up the middle, run up the middle, jet sweeps, run up the middle, run up the middle, run up the middle, Peterman roll out, run up the middle.

Am I forgetting anything about our offensive playbook?

Tom Sheldon. He's been killing it too! Pretty amazing. He only had to punt once last week.....I really hope that's the case again this weekend :)

As for the defense or lack thereof expected in this game, the current O/U is 68. Man....that's a good number, but right now I'd be tempted to take the over.
