Hard to say they are going to continue to be a bottom feeder......go look at they're recruiting it is pretty note-worthy after going 2-20 the last few years. Not really a Pitt thread just a really surprised Pitt fan at how a team that bad can land a top 10 recruiting class this quickly....not happy about it, but it is impressive....and concerning!

If they get their teeth kicked in again this season all this will level off real quick. A national championship winning coach has alot to sell.

Mack Brown has always been an ace recruiter. At UNC, guys like Ebenezer Ekuban, Vonnie Holliday, Dre Bly and Greg Ellis were all highly recruited HS players. His recruiting at Texas was on another level. Vince Young was the #1 overall high school player at any position. Sergio Kindle was #2. But talent isn't everything otherwise he never would have gotten fired from Texas in the first place.

He's an almost 70 year old man who hasn't coached in 6 years. We all know the second act is rarely as good as the first (Hello Majors II). We'll see what happens when the boys take the field.

We'll see in November.

receipting inst hard, pt just doesn't do it right, Pitt motto is first come first serve, pitt sometimes settles for whoever they can get, but regarding NC they are in a hot bed of talent they should land a top 25 class yearly

See, the next time we hire a football coach, you have to hire the best recruiter possible, I don't care who it is. Recruiting is 80% of the game. If he can coach, that would be great but only a bonus.

This is a university with an entire fake school for its athletes. That pretty much explains recruiting success. The only surprise is that football isn't as accomplished as its hoops...yet. But sometimes the top dog at a school doesn't actually want the competition (see Penn State in basketball...of course, not many others do :D). Perhaps Carolina has now decided to really get serious with football.

You really think Mack is out there telling recruits that UNC is going to be really good this season?

UNC could go 2-10 this season and they won’t lose a single recruit.

Mack is an elite recruiter and UNC should bring in very good classes. They are the brand name, in a very talented state, and centrally located close enough to other southern states to be able to steal 4* players from them. There’s no reason an elite recruiter, put on that situation, shouldn’t recruit to a 88 to 89 average recruit ranking at UNC. Granted, going into Texas and stealing A&M’a Top QB recruit from them is a whole different kind of flex and very impressive.

While I’m not sold on Mack, I do wonder how average he just needs to be for that kind of talent to have success in the Coastal?

I think unquestionably we would recruit better with a more recruiting centric coach. But we still aren’t going to recruit like UNC even if we hired out version of Mack Brown, because we aren’t as centrally located around talent as UNC is.

Guy was a recruiting machine....if not misremembering once grab about half of the top rated Dlinemen in the country.

Can’t coach but dude can corral them.

I'm not sure what he is telling kids, but I seen Beatty in a picture with him holding the national championship trophy so he is for sure using his past success to recruit.

Absolutely correct. Mack can’t coach his way out of a paper bag but is certainly great at accumulating talent.

He's been on TV since being let go at Texas, he's won a NC and he recruits with the best. Young kids love all of this and gravitate to this.

But——no one knows Jason Capel? But you have to win before you can recruit? But no one stays home anymore, kids go away for school.

This is why all the Excuses everyone comes up with about recruiting are silly.

There are coaches who can recruit, plain and simple.

Your point about being centrally located is spot on. My son was invited to NC State's "Friday night lights" a few years back and there were athlete's from Florida, Alabama, Louisiana as far away as Texas. They will draw good ball players

Um. Perhaps it's because everywhere he goes and succeeds in recruiting, they're suspected (or proven, in UNC case) to cheat?

If anything, the fact some guys can't win even with great recruits PROVES that it is happening. Why would top recruits continue to join a coach widely suspected of not being able to coach on game day? Seriously, look deep past the blue gold morass in your cranium, what else could it be?

Why is it so difficult for some to face the reality. It actually explains the Pitt struggles perfectly.

There are no other reasons to explain how solid, accomplished coaches in other programs come here and suddenly struggle so much in recruiting... and in most cases, resume being successful after they leave.

God almighty this everyone cheats stuff is the worst

Come on Man, seriously?
Come on Man, seriously?
Most schools that succeed enormously in recruiting are clearly doing extracurricular things we don't do.

It was totally PROVEN with UNC for god's sake. It's not even innuendo.

This dude is an old fat white tub of bubba goo. Who has had a bit of success but has mostly failed on the field. What would enthrall 17 year old minorities to him so much?

It shouldn't even be called cheating if the governing body condones it as it did with UNC. So il be glad to stop calling it cheating. But they're doing things Pitt don't do. Why is that so difficult to accept? It actually should be reassuring, because otherwise it confirms that Pitt is incompetent. Would yinz prefer to think that?

They are going to be like Miami. Great talent with average results. That's a big step up from what Fedora had been doing lately. I think Brown will retire in 5 years and if they nail the next hire they could be very good.
