While I never use officials as an excuse for a loss, it did seem to me that the way the game was called made a huge difference vs. UNC. A number of times, the Pitt post defender was dislodged from his position by the UNC big man backing into him. Once moved out of his position, the result was a fairly easy shot. When a defender maintains a legal guarding position, the offensive shouldn't be able to simply back into him and move him. That gives the bigger man an enormous advantage and puts the defender (especially if he is smaller) in an impossible position.
